But never too young to be salary sacrificing a little extra to your super!
If you aren't then start now, even as little as $50-$100 pre tax/pay - you won't notice it now but boy will you be happy when you retire.

Money talks and its always interesting:D
I worked a job away (actually I worked away for nearly 2 years:(), netting $1500 on a short week and nearly 3k on a long week, alot of tax free penalties, we paid to live $100/week for a cabin, ate at the pub most nights, ate the best, drank, drank more and drank again, In 4 1/2 months there was 4 night I wasn't ****ed (3 I had hayfever so bad, on the night of my 21st and there was a free **** up:mad:), at around the 3 month mark we were talking about how much we'd saved, 4 blokes, I'd saved 25k, 2 others had saved 15k, the other..................3k in the bank:eek:
Yeah... I know this digresses a little...
I hear people, my friends in Adelaide included, talk of how expensive it is to live in a city now...
How housing is too expensive to buy into the market, and how they never earn enough.. Or they want more money etc...
I explained, money doesnt come to people, people have to follow the money and make their mark.
That you dont have to sit in the city, or wherever....
I get stirred a fair bit for my life choice to move out of the city...
But they spit when I tell them how much my wife and I earn..
And with shift work comes decent breaks, not 2 day but 5-8 day weekends ;)
Thats more than enough time to really enjoy being a family...
Far better than the 2 day-ers...
Our City - Whyalla has everything we need, and what it lacks is less than 45min north at Pt Augusta, 100min to Pt Pirie or 140min to Pt Lincoln.
Or 3 1/2 hours to the 'big smog' - You can smell the smog as you get closer to the City....
I get 320 clear sky days a year. No traffic jams...
I can go to the largest shopping centre outside a Major city in 10 minutes... To the beach in 2 minutes... A Cafe' in 5min....
And they say I'm crazy:p
Yep, couldn't handle city living, I hate going into Morwell or Traralgon, let alone when I have to pick up a wreck from Melbourne:mad:
But I'm born and breed hillbilly:D
Damned shift work, on my last regular night, with 2 more to follow:mad:, finish Monday morn back in Wednesday morn:(
But the 3 extra house repayments in the pay packet won;t go astray:D
I don't like midnight shifts anymore but I still have to do them. But my income is pretty poor - no overtime in a long time. Last financial year my taxable income was $47K.
At least the travel to work is not far. I don't want to go back to working in the city nor back into telecommunications.
We rely on my wife's money but she's retiring next month.
I can't retire as my super has dropped by $100K over the last year. At the moment I'm bleeding. I've got to sell the Disco and all my son's cars/bikes which are costing us a fair bit to keep registered and insured - NSW is very exxy for rego and CTP.
We've had Elisabeth's car in May, the Disco in May, Lee's bus in June, his Hillman is overdue for rego, his Honda CB350-Four is due today, my Rangie in August, Lee's Suzuki V-Strom in September, and his XJR1300 in November. I have to keep them registered as they'd be easier to sell (when I get the Letters of Administration to allow me to sell them).
