I have seen them sit it on a branch and hold it against his body and start it before which looked ok to me but I wouldnt be up there in the first place.
There is normally a clip or a hole for one on the back handle or the back of most saws for a rope to be tied to for this reason.

You had too many of them red cans Matt......
WHO CARES...
Im not buying one, I said I might buy one for the bar and chain and then said no I wont.....It is called a joke, you know the thing you go haha and not take personal.
Is it that you have to feel like your doing the right thing or is it that you want every body else not to care if they do something that could cut their limbs off because thats what you do?
Either way, your still going to be a cowboy and not give a crap and those who dont like hurting them selves will wear appropriate PPE and use the thing how it is designed.
As far as starting it in a tree goes, If I could post vids I would take one as they will be in on Monday or Tuesday hopefully if its not to windy so I will try to get some pics anyway if he doesnt mind.
There is no way to make a drop start safe for many reasons but you all know that just some chose to ignor it.
Yeah ok, I will say right now, I wont bother posting any pics because I dont care how you start your damn saw.....
The timing belt is done, I didnt take pics due to my phone going flat and I didnt have my camera in the car.
But I dont see why you need to see pics, it's my car, i'll do work on my car when I want to, but I assure you, it is done, I did it my self, it cost me a lot more than I expected due to having to get a whole timing cover but I have already posted that.
Why should it bother you Matt, Ive just stated as have others what is safe and why I dont like that specific saw and I dont see you going out to buy one anytime soon as the 066 might get upset having a much superior and cuter saw in the shed.....:p
funny thing is the blokes here in Singapore use a pole saw with the handle cut down to about 30cm's long and saw single handed using that... very small stihl saws, 12 inch bar, 25? cc motors.... 60 kilo indian blokes running em without any safety gear except the bucket chained onto the Hiab truck crane they are hanging from!!
