    Travelling to Birdsville from Toowoomba

    We are hoping to travel to Birdsville from Toowoomba thru Eulo and Cameron's Corner, two vehicles, Range rover sport diesel towing Offroad Jayco/offroad with simplicity suspension, the other is a Holden Jackaroo, towing Jayco offroad camper. Could you please advise if this is realistic? Our only problem at present is getting better tyres for the Rangie, we don't want to travel with the alloys, but don't seem to be getting anywhere changing them. Which way is the best way to travel from Innamincka to Birdsville? Many thanks for any help we can get.

    You should have no trouble at all, as the roads are good quality, at least to Innamincka.

    There are three ways to Birdsville from there with probably the best being north from Nappa Merrie, past Arrabury and left on to the Birdsville Developmental Rd through Betoota. Both the Cordillo Downs Rd (north as well) and the Walkers Crossing Track are a little more remote and rougher, but more scenic.

    Your proposed route is quite realistic with the rigs you have. The only comment I'd have is "don't overload, take your time and enjoy the scenery". Speed is one of the main causes of breakaes/failures, especially when towing trailers.

    Regarding yor route from Cameron's Corner, I'd suggest you consider the Bore Track - a lovely run and probably less travelled than via Merty Merty. There is a small charge per vehicle to pass through the Bollard Lagoon property. Check on conditions and access at the Corner Store.

    From Innaincka to Birdsville you have three basic routes - 1. via Walkers Crossing 2. Directly north from Innamincka via Cordillo Downs and Cadelga or 3. East from Innamicka via B & W Bridge then north to Arrabury Stn (abandoned) and then either via Cordillo Downs or continue north and take in Haddens Corner also. My choice of these three would be one of the alternatives that take in Araberry Stn - the run from Innamincka to Arrabury is quite scenic and once again less travelled and usually in better condition that the route due north from Innamincka.

    I hope that all makes sense and that whatever route you choose that you enjoy a good safe, trouble free trip.

    not sure of the availability of an extra spare rim and tyre, but its worth a thought--
    be aware some vehicles are notorious for breaking rear windows from rocks bouncing off the trailer--

    take your time and enjoy the trip/scenery.

    We haven't checked it out yet, but we are thinking of maybe discovery rims as we can't get steel rims for the rangie. Do you think this would be possible, could someone advise the size of disco tyres please? Thanks Henrie

    At least take a spare tire so it can be fitted to the rim if need be have seen plenty of normal cars towing vans to Birdsville when we were out their after easter
    its only a problem if they get rain but who cares if you get stuck your on holiday
    Not sure if disco rims will fit around the break calipers or the disc rotors etc .
