A crowd gathers wherever the Mi8 lands...they used to shoot at these!

Do you use local carrying contractors, their vehicles, and operators? The photos tell me the transport operation is pretty third rate.

What are the gradients, curve radii, distances beween clean high volume refueling, driver rest stations and other necessities?

    Brian,

I think your view on necessities probably does not translate....... in the 'world' that most of the world.....lives day to day in....

A picture speaks louder than words. I think this photo will probably give you the answer to your questions:

Or as the Septics call them, "Meals Rejected by Etheopians".

This tower was on the ridge on the other side of the river from where the Mi8 landed. We asked the locals who it belonged to....the Chinese...from some centuries before. Unfortunately we did not have the time to investigate more closely.

As we flew away in the helo you could see another 5 of the towers spaced along the ridge above the river....it was probably a trade route of some past significance.

I commented earlier in this thread after seeing that and other of your pictures that your transport operation is extremely sub-standard and you need Australian rough country road train expertise. Oz road operators and logistics people would be running triples, doubles, and b-doubles, b-triples, and b-b's in that sort ofterrain subject to the aforementioned gradients and radii. If no height restrictions could double deck the containers. you provide he protection and shooters and I am sure the Oz ransport industry will do a better job than what you have pictured.

You have a fortunate and fascinating life! Although obviously not without it's drawbacks...

Absolutely love the photos and the insight, however small, into what happens and how things get done elsewhere. The countryside, the challenges and so on.

...Although it does leave me feeling rather wistful (ok, read "jealous") and wishing I'd done more, or something else with the last two decades.

Now - the photo of the kids and the water pump, that is actually one of the best looking Fiat 125's I've seen in a long time...er, well probably...ever!

    Cheers
