    Brian,

Yes, Australian Operators would be very efficient....if they could survive the first day. Bottomline NO...too expensive.

The security Australian Truckies would require, would be prohibitively expensive, and they would only operate until the first one was killed and his head was exhibited on Al Jazeera....then there'd be a rush on air-tickets to get out of the shop.

Australian rough country road trains do not meet the sort of terrain you can see in the photos here.

A Huey Flight From Tarin Kowt to Kandahar...

This sequence of photos was taken on a ride I took between TK - KAF last year to get a haircut. It was a pair of company Huey Iroquois.

The company has 12 Iroquois deployed here in country, 8 of which are mini-gun equipped gunships and 4 slicks. Not bad being in a company which packs more aerial fire spt than most of the coalition nations, and certainly Australia.

What a joke the Tiger Eurocopter is for the ADF! Guess what?...they won't operate here. Not with the altitude and temperatures. How much did they cost?

As you can see, the country south of Tarin Kowt runs out of the mountains and into fairly flat desert country but the country in between is fairly twisted and tortured........... in the geological sense.

More to follow once they have been uploaded...

    <snip>.
Is every capital purchase for the ADF badly compromised these days ??
The same mistakes appear to happen over and over. I wonder what goes on the tender process, is it poor initial specs or worse ??

Glad it isn't my ar$se on the line.

BTW, keep the pics coming, I love them. SWMBO is impressed too.....

good work, great photos, nothing like good tooling for the job.

Funny about those eurocopters an associate of mine (ex raafi) is a tech on that contract he is going over to france for 2 years as part of it. Must be costing them a bundle.

Brian, lets face it, Aussies just won't drive pretty trucks like these. The Afghani drivers do it hard. They drive a variety of vehicles, all very 2nd hand, but look at the effort they put into decorating them...not my taste.
