I think it's funny that the locals called us (foreigners) Mzungus in Kenya, and in a different language and 2 or 3 countries away, they call you Mulungus! Almost the same - and got to be derived from the same root somewhere back in time.
I had a T-shirt made up that said "I am not a Tourist" which helped a bit, as did speaking a bit of Swahili, but as a foreigner you always knew you were paying more than the locals.
Yesterday was a momentous day for my family both here in Mozambique and Melbourne. My 'Sogro'..Father-in-law..Sr Jose Oficio passed on, into a better place. He had been sick for some time, and his passing was a blessing at the end of one of the fullest lives I could imagine.
He was born, and was taken back to die in his home town of Madendere, a locality near Chidenguele, above Xai Xai on the main road going north. He was a MaChope man who had come into a changing world, out of a very traditional existence. He'd grown up in the Portuguese colonial times, was married to 3 wives, and fathered 26 children..and you thought your life was busy?
He survived through some 20 yrs of violent conflict and was one of the most humble, and human person I've had the pleasure to meet...Vale Sogro.

There are just so many Landies in Africa.
Spent the last two days in Pemba, Mozambique and then flew into Dar es Salaam, Tanzania this afternoon and I would've seen 1/2 dozen Landies ont the way into our office from the airport.
Then, drove into the office compound, which we share with a number of other businesses, and there was these two:

Back in Tanzania to put our business plan together for Mozambique and then, I have to go back to do some more business admin in Maputo, buy a vehicle, then drive up to the north, via Beira, Nampula, Nacala, and to Pemba to procure land and then start the Environmental Impact Assessment process. Busy.
There is quite a resemblance there! If you both had the same skin colour you could pass as father and son!Quote:

Mombasa was choc-a-block full of Aussies last weekend. They were in town celebrating the Africa-Hash. All of them...drinkers with running problems. Was a hoot.
