WHAT????
If that is true, they will kill off any Local sponsor interest in the event, no local sponsorship, no privateers, no privateers, no real event
idiots.

This is very disappointing, I would have liked to go and watch.
There aren't many events this big in WA and this one is in Perth's back yard and what do we get? We get to wave the off in Kal.
Quote from Australasian Safari: Home
Only one spectator point will be open to the general public for the 2008 Australasian Safari. Entry will be via a gold coin donation. Information on this spectator point will be published in due course and is still subject to the organisers receiving the relevant approvals. This will take place on Sunday 24th August 2008 and will not be far from Kalgoorlie.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Guys
I think you will find the course is just to far out in the bush and on very harsh terrain it would be almost impossible for the organisers to control
I know you get spectators in this sport that stand 5m off the side of the track and think they are safe but truthfully if you have an off you could be 50m off course easily so its quite dangerous remembering this will all be staged on private property so there is a duty of care there
To sign up as a support person its something like $50 and you get all the facilities for the week and are with a team an dteh organisers are insured in case of an accident
If you are with a team there will be spectating all days. Most teams I know of including myself were looking for people a few months ago now so anyone that wanted to spectate could have signed up
Otherwise the Adventure Tour or find a local when you go to the points
They wont be able to police 3000km of track. They just dont want people wrecking the station owners property or the duty of care I suspect.
Last year there was supposed to be no spectators ( not even my family) and we had quite a few every day
I do agree though about the sponsorship thing However if you look at the site under sponsorship opportunities it does go worldwide
I had my sister ring from Dubai last year and tell me Im on TV in the Oz Safari before it even was aired here. The Arabs love there 4wd racing and she was a legend for having her brother in the race
So its more a world wide thing than local only
Ive got a few sponsors on board this year and you can still promote things and I had a very good response thus far. I hope this continues as it is the only way I can continue in this event
See here for more info on that
Off Road Oz :: View topic - Fongies progress on preparation for Australasian Safari 2008
I will raise this issue with the organisers though if enough people post there disapproval here
Cheers
Dave
is this just like volunteering?
i have always wanted to get involved with helping out on big 4wd events like this not sure i can do it this year as i'm away in oct but i would deffinatly do it next year if this is the case...
how do you get with a team? so to speak do you have to have specific skills?
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
the website also says :
"There is no general public spectating apart from Sunday the 24th August 2008.
Overnight stops are open to visitors each evening until 10.00 pm. If you are staying past that time you must be accredited to do so."
So if you get the route map off the site and find out which towns they will be in on a particular date then you can hang around until 10pm
I'll be home on the weekend of the 24th - will have to get out there and have a look - take a few photos.
If anyone wants to come up to Kal for the weekend and is looking for somewhere to base themselves, plenty of room at my place.
Cheers .........

BM Let me know when your going,I am taking my son out to watch it. Pat

Yes joining a team is just a volunteer thing however I think you will find most teams are organised now. The organisers may be still looking for track marshalls or road closure people. I thought a few people from here were involved in this on the mundaring leg last year Bradtot??? maybe
contact the organisers and see
or go to Kal
Obviously the stops are just to look at cars when they are being serviced. Ill have mine fenced off as we had probs with stuff beng knocked off last year
that closes by 10pm
Cheers
Dave
I still think it wouldn't take much organising to rope of a 100m or two and allocate a couple of track marshals.
Bloody stupid.
BUT........ I wish you well with the comp and you will have to keep us all posted.
What vehicle are you driving and whats your number??
You might become a TV star![]()
