here's two of mine, Bo and Theo.
Bo, on the left was rescued from a japanese family, they called him "heibao", they also got scared of him as he got bigger and fearing their children's welfare, used to chain him up to the clothes line. when we got him at 8 months, we had to cut the chain from around his neck as his head had grown so much. he's a much happier dog now but still suffers seperation anxiety.
Theo ,on the right, is my little mate, he came along as a Monika's rescue dog, our first foster dog. he had mange around his eyes and we treated him and got rid of it while we had him. he took a liking to me and i decided to keep him, two months later, my old girl Renny died. if i'm going to let any dog off a leash, the only one i can trust to stick with me and come when he's called (mostly) is Theo. Bo is led by his nose and our other one, Abbey is rotty x border collie, she just takes off and rounds things up.
