I don't think I'm in Dreamland. I'm just being a realist - I have the option of an 04 Commodore for nil or my 97 Disco for $2,000. It doesn't leak at all, it's been in the family since new and has been infinitely more reliable than my Disco.

I've spent 27k on my two Discos and I've got no more left to spend. It's just the way it has to be.

Well I'd choose the freeby Commodore too but I wouldn't be getting rid of the Disco.

However most people don't just get given an 04 Commodore when things don't work out so consider yourself very lucky.

How the hell did you manage to spend $27k on two Disco1s?
Did you have a complete engine rebuild in there somewhere?

The parentals sought to upgrade to a VE and the trade in wasn't favourable, so they elected to keep it.

I didn't do any engine rebuilds, just huge amounts of problems. I did destroy a 200Tdi fuel system from tank to injectors though. I kept all the bills and its just amazing how the hundreds run to thousands.

Mechanics bills do add up over time up I suppose.

Your parents were never going to get a favourable trade in on their Commodore with the current fuel scare (sell it privately if they want to get a good outcome) however they are still taking a financial loss to save your **** so I hope you're very appreciative.

Jeez, hope you kept those bills in a safe place, can't imagine what would happen if SWMBO ever found those.

Too right. I'm not the type of person who is comfortable owing anybody any sort of debt. Whatever I get for the Disco is theirs.

Blknight -its a 5 seater. My cousin has made an offer.

Well then you are lucky to have parents who can make that offer and they are lucky to have a son who doesn't just expect it.

Hope you can get back into a Landy when things improve.

Behold the mighty flood, now it needs its rear main doing and my bloke reckons its easiest to drop the automatic to get to it, to the tune of another four figues with a leading 2. A few LR mechanics have said "oh the 300Tdi does have a few rear main seal issues as they changed the way its fitted".

No way am I paying to have this done, sorry but it's going...

Replacement is a VY S series II, 2004, black, 44,000k, FSH immac etc.
I think you will find that you have just paid out 4 figure to create the problem of the rear main oil seal yourself

You see your engine is breathing (as it is getting on it in years) and it was pushing oil out of the gaskets and seals you have just replaced. But you fixed them has moved the problem onto the rear main oil seal. If you repace this with out sorting the engine out them it will come out from somewhere else. Should have left it alone as you may have created another large bill for yourself

Also on the oil drping land rover thing, One main rule for owning a land rover and that is do not have a flash expensive drive as the car will ruin it.
