The gear box swap was a suffix change so again no problem.
swapping to the sals might have been a problem But since I havent touched the chassis sides of the mounts just the axle side and its all bolted under compression and I have no lift from it thats cool as well..

so sayeth the RTA and a local vehicle inspection place....

No such thing as the RTA in QLD :p

Changing from one OEM option to another can be done without a mod plate on any vehicle (in QLD), it has nothing to do with the age of the vehicle.

e.g. you can fit a mitsubishi cordia turbo engine into an na cordia if you upgrade the brakes and suspension to the same spec as the turbo model.

So for any SIIA, you don't need a mod plate to fit any optional engine, but you would need a mod plate to fit an engine that wasn't originally fitted to a SIIA.

to clarify the Series3 had a rover 6, and now a holden 6, so would a 200 still fit in ok and drive away with teh same box etc?

I might be wrong, or it may have changed but when I was researching the mods I was originally planning to kermit (I was going for a kubota 3 pot air cooled diesel) the ruling was so long as I didnt weld the chassis and kept it within the power limits of the OEM engine then it was all good.... but that was 9-10 years ago now.

in short, no not easily.... IF you have a rover 6 then the bell houseing stud pattern will be wrong for a TDI.. but if you were to drop in an original 4pot gearbox then mod the mounts and the radiator setup youd get it in.

I am not sure when these rules came in... but they were in place when I converted my IIA to a diesel around 2000.


Although this is intended to mean only bolt-in options, many people get away with 6cyl-v8 conversions in holdens under this rule.

Of course there is the consideration that it is very unlikely that the authorities will have any idea either what options were available on a particular model Landrover and even more what was fitted to a specific vehicle, especially if we are talking about one that predates ADRs, so any Rover engine for example, is probably OK.

What is not clear from the booklet is the status of vehicles that may have been modified long before the legislation (I assume that problems would arise if it was presented for registration, but how about if it has been continuously registered?)
