You are deemed a legend not just by your results but by your actions. To finish second overall in the Tour De France is a legendary achievement and one that no other Australian in the history of world cycling has ever even gone close to achieving. To do it with a team that is extremely poorly managed, supplying you with no team mates to support you makes this achievement even more astounding. Cadel may have finished second but Silence Lotto lost the tour and their arrogance and stupidity is going to bite them on the ****. Are Tony Lockett, Gary Ablett Snr, Robert Harvey not legends - none of them ever won a Grand Final?

Is he a legend, I dont think so, has he excelled in his chosen sport, yes. I would never call a sportman/women of any sort a legend. You dont play sport to make a better place for people or animals etc to live. Give me a mum that battles to look after sick children, someone that takes on foster kids etc and I will find you a legend
    cheers

While I agree with you mostly, I also think that some people - who are very good at what they do - are insprirational and capable of driving others on to better things - especially in the face of adversity. The guy had a prang, chewed himself up and still got back on without a whimper and came second overall. I wonder how many people that act taught that giving up isn't an option...

Good on him. While the TDF isn't something I watch, I can appreciate the emtremes involved. If it were easy it wouldn't exist.

He's awesome. Was great as a MTBer, and it's always a good feeling to see any Aussie do that well.

Im in the gang that reckons with a stronger team he woulld have shoed it in. He does need to not rely on the time trial however. Sastra is a real mountain goat but her won it in the time trial. Cadel as a time trialist needs to win a mountain stage to win the event. but considering her rode a single guard challenge against CSC his did pretty bloody good.
He does need some massaging however with his media approach. i think we want to support him and think hes pretty cool but he comes across as a bit of a sook sometime. Better to hear " hard day, long ride other guy was better" as opposed to the infamous "three on one" and "only yellow in Paris " quotes
