    Im guessing TOO HARD.
The loom is no good, you need a Defender TD5 loom and Im guessing the TD5 Defender instrument pack???The D2 loom conects to the SLABs and BCU ECUs wich Defenders dont have.
Is the D2 fly by wire accelerator the same as the TD5 Defender???
Much easyier if you get the lot from a TD5 Defender.
    GOODLUCK,its a challenge

I am pretty sure you're wrong guys. The TD5 engine loom on a discovery is a seperate entity to the bulkhead loom and BCU etc as it is on a Defnder (albeit with no BCU)

Edited to add it would be easieer with Defender parts but its not that much harder with Discovery.

    Throttle is different. Yes

    cost factor

    Jock

If you fit a td5, it would be easier to fit all of the drive train
(ie gearbox/tcase etc0 from a D 2, that way it would be less
    expensive in the log run.

Just because you dont have the imagination or ability to take on or attempt something, doesnt mean you should be a smart **** and spout crap to put someone else off.

Oh and its lose, not loose.

If you do the conversion with a wrecked Defender, then you know that everything will fit into the engine bay, the computer and looms will be suitable and the other associated parts like accelerator pedals, radiators etc will suit
    x2.

I know of one Sydney workshop that tried to shoehorn a D2 TD5 into a D1. It'd run, but only for a couple of minutes. They missed one sensor up in the headlining or somewhere when srripping the writeoff. They gave up.

If it was relatively easy you'd see conversion kits by now surely?

by the sounds of it the computers are the problems.

is it possible to strip a Td5 of the ecu and run it like a Tdi? or is that not possible?

    Thanks

No fraid not Jock, the injectors are electronically fired. You may be able to get one to run more simply on say a Motec ecu or similar but it would bump the cost a lot.

To answer your question, anything can be done with time and money, if your talking TD5 then your talking money, money and more money.

You could probably buy a very good second hand 300TDI for a few grand and drop it straight in with a few mods e.g. tune the pump properly and throw in a new set of injectors and you will get great drivable power and no probs with gearbox/TC/fitting computer mods, rego or insurance etc.

For my money the disadvantages outway the advantages so I wouldnt do it personally but if your up for the chellange and you have plenty of dosh laying around then go for it but I would doubt in the end if the engine is $5k that you would get out of it for a good $10k after adding gearbox, computer/s, programing, radiator and labour.

    good luck
