So what you're saying is your car has a massive rear end gas problem
You couldn't just blame it on the dog?

I needed to fill up with LPG this morning so I pulled into my usual petrol station. The tank wasn't quite empty so was surprised when it took 64litres of LPG but figured it must be because it's quite cold. I went to disconnect and gas started escaping out the valve in copious amounts. I pulled my hand out and ran inside the shop telling them the problem and asking for some gloves so I could disconnect the pump. They didn't have any!!!!
I ended up going back out to the car with the Asian owner of the service station and using my jumper to unscrew the pump. I ended up with a decent freeze burn on my hand and little finger. Gas was still escaping through the filler valve. I asked owner what there procedure was for this and he said "I don't know, do you have a mechanic you can phone."
So I phoned the RAC and joined up, (cost me $194) and they came out to me. By this time i had managed to poke the valve a few times and it was no where near as bad and had moved my car off the forecourt, much to the relief of the owner. It must have looked bad for him. His main concern was me paying for the gas.
The bloke from RAC didn't know what to do, so went to his car and rang a few people and had a look in his manual. He came back out and said he's meant to phone the emergency services. Went back to his car and then came back saying the Fire Service where on their way.
The Fire Service turned up with sirens and lights going. Jumped out their truck and rolled out hoses. The started having a look and they couldn't figure out what do to either. By this stage the RAC bloke had got on to a gas fitter, who told him that the tanks are fitted with a one way valve (AFL Valve) and to just give the filler valve a few good squirts and it will shut off. This didn't work.
So I ended up getting an escort from the Fire Service to the gas fitters. Once there they disconnect the filler valve and 30 liters escaped before the AFL Valve kicked in.
So they replaced the Filler Valve and when I have used the remaining gas, I have to go back and have a new AFL Valve fitted.

I would have thought there was a valve on the tank, that you could turn off?
Thanks for that, It's good to know what to do should it ever happen to me. Obviously it's not so much fun when you are the first one to have it happen to.

Now that sir is a story!
I bet you were stressed out. I like how you had to drive it with gas coming out. I would of thought something better then that could of been done.
How bad are your hands mate ? hope they are not to bad . At least it was only gas you lost and not a full tank of petrol .... a lot cheaper to replace the gas.
mine kinds did that once, when i unscrewed the gas pump gas was hissing out of the filler but i just grabbed a screwdriver and poked the small round circle bit in the middle and it came good (the part that pushed the valve bit down didnt come up the right way when i took it off and so was on an angle when it unscrewed letting the gas leak out) and even that freaked me out so you must have been going nuts !!!
glad its all ok now though
Glad to hear it turned out OK - even if it was an expensive experience!!!
Did you tell em it had been upside down lately![]()
