    On-board air compressor

Well the 3 amigos came on again today so I thought I'd take the old soldier for run up the sand track to Dewar's surf spot north of Two Rocks - all in the name of "exercising" the shuttle valve.

Now this track is a bit of a roller coaster with one quite cut-up climb on the way out which sees my weedy 2" lift getting up close and personal with the bump stops...

So after getting the TC buzzing and watching a couple of guys in a Santa Fe take the chicken track and still need to build a road, I head home to air up.

Now this is actually the first time I've bothered to use the on board air comp, having used my old cheapie before I gave it away to a mate. Now according to the documentation with the car it's a Pro-quip and I think was put in the car from new (so getting on a bit). And it took about 10 minutes to get one 31" tyre from 18psi back to 38psi. So, hmmm...

I grab the new Bushranger Black Max I bought to pump the Heep's 33's and do the remaining three tyres in about 10 minutes. So I am now looking at the on-board as an "emergency back-up" - which ticks me off a little as it would be nice not to have to carry a compressor when I have one under the bonnet.

Anyone know anything about Pro-quip? Might it need new seals or something, or do I junk it and get a contemporary pump plumbed in where it is now? Makes all the right noises until you connect it to a tyre, then it dies in the a** - sounds like a 2CV trying to climb Greenmount Hill.

    Cheers

No idea...I bought the car 12 mths ago and as I say seems to have been in there from original purchase.
I'm guessing it must have been a reasonable bit of kit at the time - otherwise why bother having it mounted and hardwired in? But who knows...
