Would you believe that I got 5 from a local wrecker for $30 each. DOH.
Shows how often I get off me bum, eh !
Rovercare, thanks again for the offer, it was much appreciated.
I will worry about getting centre's later.
I wouldn't mind putting them on original early Disco steel centre's, if they would fit, and if I could get a set.
It would keep the original look and I bet most folk would not even notice
the splits. Youse Blokes would, of course.
Numpty, if you are going to get off the beaten track in the deserts further west, you will need them.
Cheers.
PS: Seeing as how,I mostly dont have to be, at any time, other than wherever I happen to be, I wouldn't mind spending a few months out
looking for Mr Gibson. I know he's out there.
We thought we may have run in to Ludwig Leichhardt..........but we didn't.
re wheels, I have so many sets of wheels at the moment I wouldn't know where to put any more. Agree though, if using stiff walled tyres like MRF's, a split rim makes it so much easier to get them on and off. I currently run Disco steels on the Defender for outback trips, and we ran into trouble trying to reseat a tyre on to the bead. Most portable compressors cannot deliver the volume of air required.
I liked the look of the Michelin XZL's which were fitted to the 130 at Birdsville.
You wouldn't have liked the price of them, i asked about them when i was looking at new tyres, $320 each, 6 months ago.Quote:

Numpty.
Being able to run with tubes and punture and tyre repair kits in the scrub
is a sound idea, really. A few spare tubes doesn't take up much space. You can pack em in and old biscuit tin, which you can also use as a dish to wash your frying pan in. I travel very light on creature comforts,
tho as I get older I think that a fold up chair is good idea. I pack like a drover.
You might be able to put the splits on the disco wheels that you have ?
Besides the extra sidewall protection with the 12 or 14 ply steel belts.
I have a feeling that old Ludwig is further south ?
Fun looking for him, tho.
too many spare rims any 7 x 16 for the 130 :D ;)
