Emissions.
Thats why even the most neanderthal of vehicles now have ecu's.
You may think that ECU's break down and crash every time they are turned on.... but in reality Microsoft have had nothing to do with them. :D
BTW, when I broke a TD5 radiator at Archer River Roadhouse in the middle of Cape York.... a new one turned up overnight. Mt Isa is more able to get parts in than Archer River Roadhouse.:D

The countries we live in have legislated that vehicles should meet emission and safety standards...the Defender is just hanging in there..if the legislation was retrospective then the Puma Defender would be the only Defender on or off the road.Quote:

I do find it very interesting that one of the above posters mentions that selling his County was the most regretted decision he made in the signature. I also find the prices of used 110's from the mid 80's to be very interesting when compared with their rivals. Guess other people are as ill informed as me.
Really. I think the Defender has never been more capable as what it is now.
I also think the mid 80's 110s were popular as there was an engine that had more grunt in it and it was more reliable than the Tdi.
I don't think that capability has been affected one iota. Engines are one thing, 4wd system and it's operation is the same.
