Thread: shed repair

Last patch suggestion is a good one.

If the shed's oooooold it's probably A\C Asbestos Cement. The rule is to remove it, paint it or disturb it as little as possible till you.... remove it or paint it.

If your worried, paint the damaged area, you just need to encapsulate it to stop any nasties. Look on the back of the sheet, the clean side and see if it is grey of has a bluish tinge. If Blue and kind of fiberous paint while holding breath.

You can patch it effectively a number of way's:

The last suggestion is spot on, liquid nails or silicone (Roofers grade is good) an A/C patch over it. It will match the profile and is by far the simplest solution. Depending on size of dog and supply of spare toxic substance....

Second you can buy from a roofing supply A\C free sheets which you could then cut and repeat above.

Third you can buy the same profile in skylight (Alsynite) sheets. Cheepish, easier to cut and might work if not in shed destroying dog's path. Then just paint it.

You send it to a laboratory that will then look at it through a microscope and tell you if it contains asbestos. This testing is quite cheap ~$50 or you could find someone on the forum who works for one of these laboratories and may be able to help you out .

It is important though that you do not go cutting and drilling until you make sure. Asbestos sheeting is fine until you start mucking about with it.

I could actually. It's a small company that is based not to far from you.

we got a few places near here that sell sheets (i think) may be i can just glue a sheet on top, other wise the insert repoair seems good if i can complete it in teh ten seconds that i can hold my breath.
can gaurnetee(?) dogs will add more holes.
we have a guest dog who is full on in the energy dept, so more holes is probably a certainty

You can test it if you like. But it is pretty safe to say if the shed is over 20 years old it's A\C.

A\C generally has a black mold growing on it.
The surface exposed to the weather if you look closly appears to have small fibers stuck on it. Like dried spider web. Another distinctive clue is the screws are normally going through a diamond shaped washer. This quite often has blackjack or "old black dried stuff" under it. These are the washer they used at the time.

But 20+, it's A\C.

If you can, do the insert from the inside. Silicone then prop something against it to hold it in place.

Then you'll have load's of time to drive and get some nice stock options for dinner.... or drop dog at mate's place not sure who.....?
