Last patch suggestion is a good one.
If the shed's oooooold it's probably A\C Asbestos Cement. The rule is to remove it, paint it or disturb it as little as possible till you.... remove it or paint it.
If your worried, paint the damaged area, you just need to encapsulate it to stop any nasties. Look on the back of the sheet, the clean side and see if it is grey of has a bluish tinge. If Blue and kind of fiberous paint while holding breath.
You can patch it effectively a number of way's:
The last suggestion is spot on, liquid nails or silicone (Roofers grade is good) an A/C patch over it. It will match the profile and is by far the simplest solution. Depending on size of dog and supply of spare toxic substance....
Second you can buy from a roofing supply A\C free sheets which you could then cut and repeat above.
Third you can buy the same profile in skylight (Alsynite) sheets. Cheepish, easier to cut and might work if not in shed destroying dog's path. Then just paint it.
