I fink theres a problem with the points. You could tell that he put the brakes on as soon as he saw the points set the wrong way.

One of my ex girlfriends old man used to work on the spark trains in melbourne. He recalled one day they were doing a test run at 60kmh, when someone walked out in front. He said the driver hit the emergency brake, pulled the blinds down and left the compartment and waited for the thud. Nothing you can do.

    Stu, that doesn’t surprise me.

I was an elect train driver in Sydney and on one trip, I was working a suburban out to Bondi Junction.

I powered out of Central, on the Eastern Suburbs line ( all underground in the city ) and in those days, none of the suburban had headlights and the only light in the tunnel was that coming from the signals.

On that section of the line, the there is a steep decent leaving Central station, then a shape rise back up into Town Hall station.

At the very bottom of the dip, I hit something which also trip the emergency breaks.

The train came to an abrupt halt with the first 2 cars ( of an 8 car train ) sitting on the platform at Town Hall.

I got out and had a look at the front of train and there to my horror, there was a piece of checked shirt wrapped over the trip valve.

I had the SM call the police, who had to walk through the tunnel from Central to Town Hall station.

The smart **** cop came over to me and said “it’s dead, you killed a seat”.

It seems some low life had thrown a seat out of the last train, which I hit and the material I saw wrapped around the trip was the inside lining of the seat.

It still left a horrid taste in my mouth ( along with some choice words for the cop ).

Hi Tim. No turnout signal that I could see to pre-warn the driver.

Hi Ron, yep, I run it a few times trying to see if the were any signals, couldn’t make any out.

If they were full wagons, that would have been a hard hit.
