RE:How many Ks are to many.
G'day folks thanks for the responses to my last post i'm hoping i can get some more help with this one.Today i took my first disco for a test drive and was suprised but not happily. It was a 1997 tdi with 200,000 on the clock and an auto in what seemed to be in really good nic,it blew a little black smoke on start up but then idled nicely with very little. On take off i thought there was something wrong with the excelerator it seemed very stiff and i had to push it what seemed to be a long way down before i felt any power it also seemed to be very heavy in the steering. Now considering i'm currently driving an V6 Pajero and a V6 vn commodoore does this seem a normal opinion on first driving this type of vehicle. As before any and all advice would be much appreciated Cheers Bob

I'd say there's nothing wrong with it.

This experience sounds about right to me too - they can take a bit of getting used to
, particularly if you want to acelerate quickly to enter a break in traffic.
Some owners of 300tdis have found it useful to adjust the slack out of the (stretched) accelerator cable (adjuster at the pump end of the cable).
