It is no fault of the government - be it Coalition or Labour. If they had set the cutoff at 3499kg you would still be screwed.

IMHO it is the fault of:

The flunky who gave you the wrong info
your gas installer who should know better
you for not double/triple checkin, (spending 5 seconds with google)

If it was me I would go back to the gas installer and try and get a discount (ESPECIALLY since you say it doesn't work!!!). I am sure his prices are a bit inflated.

I reckon even if it save you one third on your fuel, and you got the rebate it would take 50k to pay for itself.... which I suppose is pretty good. :)

I have a '96 130 and my rego papers have it listed at 3050GVM

I had EcoShot done on mine for $3600 and it runs like a beaut. Heaps more pulling power and I can well believe the "up to 30% improvement" claim. The economy is less spectacular but relative to how much you use the extra grunt in the car. I'm getting anything between 9 and 10/100ks running about locally. Have just returned 9.2/100 but it was a pretty easy drive.

Anyone wants any info I can tell you where I had it done (Central Coast, NSW) The main (noticeable) thing for me was driving up local/familiar hills where I would always have to drop into 3rd, I can now easily do them in 4th.

I spoke to the installer for whom I occasionally do some work and he did have some 130s go through last year without problems. However, he said that the wording was later changed to the current wording and that's the problem.

He now advises potential customers that they probably won't get the rebate.

He knows of one bloke who is challenging the ruling. That may have significance for some of you.

May I ask what you got for $5,100 as that sounds a lot more than this bloke charges for the Sequent II system? Did you get a new exhaust or twin tanks or something non-standard done?

Disclosure statement: I may be working part time (as a storeman/packer) for the Sequent II supplier come next year when I retire.

Any other NSW 130 owners here who'd like to check their rego papers? It's important as you might squeeze through.

to further clarify: (I don't know what others have their's classified at) my tare weight: 2140 and agg weight 3050. That is what the rego paper says


btw, I took the car down for him to look at, he gave it the once over and quoted me. I accepted and he printed me an invoice out (this was on the Friday) I took it straight to medicare and the money was in my account the following Thursday, which was the day I had it booked in.

VERY interesting! I sort of wonder if maybe it is a typo on your rego papers, as in my owers handbook it rates GVM as 3,500kgs. Pleased to know that you are getting good result - I can at least look forward to that when mine is sorted.

Thanks Ron, That is all very interesting. It was some months before I had the job done that I was told that 3,500 was okay. Maybe that was before they changed the wording. I would be really interested to know more of the person challenging it - I plan to do the same.

For my $5,100......I received a lesson in gullibility. This crowd convinced me that they did the best work in Australia, and in fact were developing their own "super system" which they could retro-fit to my car. They justified the price on the basis of the quality of the install.

When I collected the car, there were greasy hand marks and coffee cup stains on the bonnet and guard; the guard was dented on the top where the had leant on it too heavily; the bonnet pull was broken; my expensive cd player/reversing monitor had been zapped by welding, and the system simply did not work. Despite the fact that they knew I lived a three hour drive away, they returned it not working.

It was a perfectly straightforward install - no exhaust mods, single tank under rear of tray.

I had the system looked at by another crowd who have only just started on D-gas. They discovered that the control box was faulty, and that was fixed under warranty by D-gas. They also moved the injection point from the inlet manifold to the outlet of the intercooler to give more time for mixing.

It is now working, but results are very disapppointing. As I picked it up, there was a noticeable - but not great - power increase, but there was also a lot of extra diesel knock noise. Adjusting it down got rid of the noise, but also got rid of the extra power. It is going back in next week for experimentation with different jets/pressure settings.

For the record, D-gas and the new installer have both been very helpful, and if it can be sorted I am sure they will do so.

Ron, I am very interested in the Sequent system. I have just bought an Oka and would like to have that done, but I am starting to think that the D-gas system may be a bit low-tech for really good results. Is the Sequent company run by the folk who used to run KLR Land Rovers?

funny thing is, I don't recall anyone checking the rego papers when i went to medicare to lodge the claim - could be wrong though. I suppose they would have direct access to your info without having to check your actual papers. It'd all be available to them online. If you can persuade the installer (I didn't have to persuade - he just did it) to do like mine did, and give you an invoice before doing the job so you can lodge the claim beforehand, if you get knocked back for the rebate, you'll know before actually putting the car in. You would then have a choice.

May not be relevant, but a couple of years ago with the 2a I had words with the RTA about incorrect mass figures on the rego papers - and they admitted there was a software bug that gave different figures depending on where the printing was done!

I'm afraid that my opinion of their competence is not very high.

We used to instal Diesel Gas systems,(Out of South OZ), but I would recommend Eco shot due to its simplicity and adjustablilty. Also, it enriches the gas using boost pressure, and is in my opinion a more useful system on a turbo diesel.
Cheaper too.;)
