    WARNING:- Diesel-gas rebate con

    Hi All,

I recently had a D-Gas system fitted to my 300TDi Defender. Before doing so, I telephoned the appropriate government Department of Mis-information, and they confirmed that I would be eligible for the $2,000 rebate.

Now (after I have spent the $5,100) they say I am ineligible, because a 130 Defender has a GVM of 3,500 Kgs and the act states that the grant only applies to vehicles with a GVM UP TO but NOT INCLUDING 3,500Kgs!!!

This despite the fact that they earlier told me I would be eligible.

So watch out if you own a 130 - no rebate, so keep polluting just like the government wants you too. So much for all the Rudd rhetoric about the environment - just another ****-and-wind merchant!

By the way, if you are thinking of getting a conversion done in Canberra, PM me first......

    Cheers,

    Paul

Thanks for the tip, and that is a big one.

I haven't really followed it but that is an expensive conversion. How much has it helped your fuel economy?

that GVM limitation is a black&white cutoff - considering that most 130s would get used for similar uses to 110s - it seems quite unfair - not what you would call "naturally just"

Yes, that IS an expensive conversion, and I don't know about the fuel economy because it didn't work - despite all the promises of the best job in the country for the higher price.......

I have some-one else fixing it, and will report on economy, power etc once I get it going. For the record, D-gas seem very good to deal with, the installer was the problem.

    Cheers,

    Paul

I agree and feel your pain but it is clearly stated on the govt. website. The installer should have known that and told you.

Yeah, typical government con. What car maker would list GVM as 3,499 Kgs? Of course they would round it up to 3500! It shows the complete lack of sincerity of this bunch of yobbos. Seems there was a recent ruling "clearig up confusion" about the 3500 rating.....Bastids!

Hmm. I was going to put gas in my Forward Control, after I fitted the 186. Oh well...
    Thanks for the fine-print heads-up.

I see what you mean Ron. Unfortunately I telephoned instead of looking on the net and the operator said (of 3,500kgs) "You just squeak it in". Humph!

The installer wouldn't have known what day it was......

    Cheers,

    Paul
