Oh Please, give it a day off Dobbo with the unnecessary posts. If that is how you feel then fine, but do you really think Mick wants to read this stuff right now? Your timing seems impeccable-NOT.

I agree with some of the things you say about getting on with life etc, but Depression has a habit of not ALLOWING you to do it, no matter how much you WANT to. It sometimes can't be helped, even with all the support and medication.

So please think a little harder before typing, as in this case what you said really isn't helping this thread mate.

    Hi Mick
Onya for talking about your problem,it does help.
Mate I too had a serious back injury at work wich led to 2 years off work.I got fairly low during that time, especialy when the employer along with the insurance company set me up as a cheat.I took a lot lesser payout just to end the whole deal.
Over it all now,yes I still have some backpain. But best of all my life is back on track better than ever.
Chin up,look as each day as a new start.
    GOODLUCK

    Fair enough.

But I believe this holds more weight for many of those I have dealt with over the years.

Man that is way off kilter if you actually had to deal with depression. It ISN'T possible to see the positive side & the light at the end of the tunnel IS a god damn train.
I live with my partners depression all the time & have been to the doctors & shrinks with her. It takes people who understand this scourge & sometimes a little chemical help to get back on top.

Diet & exercise is a VERY big thing in helping to eliminate the black dog. Damn I wish some days it was an entity so I could pull it's F*@^%g head off. Watching a loved one disappear into the black hole is no fun.

Fusion, keep ya head up & keep letting people help when it's needed.

    ??????

As you were I was trying to help, thats the way I see life, I am happy, and others who live similar ways to me are happy. Remember, everyone has low points, the journey of life isn't an autobahn, it's never as smooth as silk, everyone gets good days and bad days. You just have to suck it and see what happens. And yes I do know someone that has beat depression in the past, he changed his situation to make himself content with life. It worked.

Thanks for the reply and it is good that your friend was able to beat it. However

If the average age is 82yrs or 43128720 minutes why are you wasting 1 of them with a negative attitude?

Topping yourself? What the frig for? Thats just passing your crap onto your family and friends, bloody selfish, why should they have to deal with your problems and your loss as well? Which is why he didn't do it!!!

Hiding in a bottle will not solve crap, it will actually produce more problems and you know it.

If I couldn't pay my bills, I'd change the situation I was in because the world isn't going to change for me.
My sister-in-law has been out of work for almost five years due to a sudden an unexplained tremor ranging from fits to just arm shaking. Used to be a teacher but she cannot get any job. Imagine what it would be like to be epileptic but without any drugs to control it. She finds productive things to do for some of the time, like volunteer work, helping family with little things, but none of these help with the bills. She has lost her house already. I am amazed at how she stays positive most of the time.

But, like Fusion, she is allowed to have bad days where it all gets too much and we don't judge her for doing things that otherwise might be considered poor form. We just quietly thank god it wasn't one of us. And if on those days she has a few too many to drink and pour her heart out then all we can do is listen, be sympathetic and let her talk/cry. The last thing she needs is for one of us to tell her to stop being negative and get on with life.

Know the feeling but there is hope

The year was 1984 . I had been on a drunken spree . The missus and kids had already left ( for good ) I was out of a job and the house mortage was creeping ever upwards due to interest rates hiking . I had 2 options one was a bottle of sleeping pills on the bedside table. For some reason I took option two and within an hour I was at an AA Meeting many people have scoffed at me but i am still alive and have a new partner with a heart of Gold , own my home and best of all get to drive my old D2 TD5 with caravan behind whenever and where ever we chose Dont give up there is always light at the end of that dark tunnel either that or I was just plain lucky ? Cheers George

I am not bagging you out, just giving you a reality check the way I see it, Yes you may think I have a warped view of the world but IMHO my life is bloody good. Even the crap bits have good points. So can I really be wrong? If people don't like me I couldn't really give a crap, it's they're problem. They have one of two options, act like a tool , or come around to my way of thinking. Either way I will treat them as they treat me. I am not the richest person in the world, I am the prettiest (I am a very good looking man) , I am not the most popular or liked. I believe in God he is me and mine, we come first.

I understand where you are coming from Dobbo . But in my darkest hour of the depression there is no motivation . Even a positive feels like it's against you . So many times i wanted to just get on with it and move on but without the medication i had the " black dog " pushing me to the floor and holding me down. And i don't just hit the bottle either . And before i got the depression i was very happy with my life but one person can only take so much before they break . Depression is not just about negative thoughts . It's a disease and it's a chemical imbalance in the brain giving that person a down and out feeling . Trust me i'm getting on top of it and i WILL beat it .
