Defender Windscreen needed in / near Karratha?

    G'day Guys,

I was all set to be heading off to Karijini today, got my permit to drive the railway track road etc then we went off for a drive to Dampier and unfortunately copped a rock to the front screen from a passing semi carrying mining plant.

Of course this happends 12.30pm local time so all workshops closed!!! I Rang NRMA to get an approval number (I have full glass cover as part of my policy) who then wanted me to drive into a Sydney branch of O'Brians to fix it!!!

Eventually got through to O'Brians themselves and they only had dealers in Canarvon or Perth!!! They wanted me to driver over 1,000kms to get a new screen.

I can drive the vehicle, the break is about tennis ball size circle with multiple cracks right in the view of the driver (lower part so you can see over it) but dont think it would make it to Tom Price on the dirt roads to get to Karijini or then being stranded in Tom Price or anywhere for over a week while they ship a screen in from Perth.

I am hoping to try Novous in the morning and see if the ex LR dealer here in Karratha has any old stock - fingers crossed, otherwise we may have to drive to Exmouth which was our next port of call and wait there for the screen as we planned to stay there for about 4-5 days anyway.

Either way, it doesnt look like we are going to make Karijini this time

Lets see how we go in the morning.

Howdy Mark - since the windscreen is totalled - would 5 minute clear epoxy from a hardware store keep it together long enough for the drive to Karijini and back? After all, I'm sure the locals have done worse sorts of bush fixes to windscreens.

Cheers Langy, this would be an option, which I may even have to do to get us to Exmouth.

I am hoping some ringing around early in the morning may shed some light on the issue.

Ive used sheet perspex in the past in an emergancy but that only lasts a couple of weeks before you cant see out of it any more.

you can use 2 pack epoxy but judicious use of superglue will also get you out of trouble providing you havent lost too many bits of the glass.
