Oh Yeah Desert Storm.
We had one of the largest storms through Alice yesterday around 1330. Started with dust then rain.
Attached are some photos one of our Engineers took.
The hangars and office filled with dust despite being closed up.!!
If you look at the carport roof carefully (where the cars are visible) you can see a fluro light. The following picture you can just see the fluro illuminated but no cars!! This was about 10 metres from the camera.

Oh Yeah Desert Storm.
Hate to be the poor apprentice working the next day, lots of sweeping to be done![]()
Saw one of them in the Alice in 1965 - lasted for three days, reducing visibility to mostly about 50m. No air movements for two days.
This one also affected much of western NSW on the 22nd, including a report of leaving pink snow in the alpine areas. Not much sign of it here though, seems to be mainly in the southwest of the state.

Other than the dust storm we encountered during our recent trip (between Finke and Old Anadado)
The only others I've experienced was the remnants of one in Sydney a couple of years ago and the one that came through Melbourne in 1983 just before the Ash Wednesday fires.

I have friends crossing the Simpson at the moment, wonder if they have been caught in any of these storms. We had a dust storm on Monday, not as bad as Alice though.
