We own a German Short Haired Pointer and a Ragdoll cat. Neither require any more grooming than the other. Great thing about the Ragdoll is their fur won't mat - just wish it wouldn't shed:(
That said we did own a Cocker for many years and I have to say that there comes a time where you need to swap grooming for clipping - seasonal issues when young in the tropics and also as they age it's a lot easier to keep them trimmed.
Did I mention Ragdoll's won't fight either, so if you hold him down he just meows and grumbles and then gives up - no scratches or biting:D - he's a big wuss.
