See the snatch strap when they recovered the nissan. It was twisted like a pretzel. They obviously know nothing about vehicle recovery.

Yep and nothing about 4wdriving. Of course the Old Toyota is going to leak water in with the footwell vent open and possablly original door seals. I have been in enough of those to know if the seals are in good nick then bugger all water gets in. And also I think they missed the point, those old cruisers were meant as work vehicles a lot like the Fender, you could get them full of crap and hose them out, not Soccer Mom Cruisers like the Nissan.
As for comparing a petrol 35 year old cruiser to a 2009 Nissan, I think the old girl held up ok. They should have been comparing a petrol with a petrol or diesel with a diesel of the same make.
My old cruiser was great for that, no roof, no doors, roll cage and great for playing and taking the dogs out.
As for Morrison chickening out on the descent, it would have done it easy, just the driver wussed out.
They have lost all credability in the area of 4wdriving IMHO.

I thought the test was lame.....not only was it not informative, but it was not entertaining. Surely they could have contracted a 4x4 instructor and perform a real comparison.

I did think the track was good though. Where was that?

ohh, and I did see the back of my head a couple of times. If you are thinking of going to one of their recording sessions, don't!

I wouldn't discourage people to go, that night was a tough one, i was there too. I was the poor bastard the warm up guy got up on stage at the beginning.
I've been to 4 all up now, (cheap night out). 2 in the last season and 2 this season, at all of the others we got to see all of the clips and it was a lot more entertaining, that Tuesday night was more like a job.
Anyway, taping for this year is done, I haven't heard if they are getting a 3rd season.

Was anyone really expecting a serious comparison of two 4WDs?

Surely all we were ever going to get was a couple of slightly amusing observations about differences between the old and the new. That is exactly what we would have got on the UK version.

I have seen at least one post on this forum where someone was obviously amused by the fact that on their own vehicle they forget to close the vents before a water crossing. So at least one member of AULRO thinks that open vents and water are a potentially amusing combination. Maybe some other people do too.

They also drew attention to a couple of other differences between the the old SWBToyota and the new LWB Patrol. If you were on a trip with someone who boasted about how good his new 4WD was and possibly even bet you a meat tray, and then he couldn't get around the corners without a 3 point turn and got hung up on his side steps, I bet you would think that was hilarious.

Of course it was a put up job. The Patrol could easily have been driven up that slope so that it didn't get hung up. However, just as they regularly do on the UK show, they staged things to make a point.

Surely one of the reasons they had James chicken out on that descent had nothing to do with his courage or skill. It was so that they could make a bit of a joke about pathetic brakes on old vehicles. I don't even know whether the brakes on old Toyotas were really that bad, but surely they wouldn't let a few facts get in the way of a good joke. Maybe they also wanted to make a simple but serious point about roll over protection.

Of course it wasn't a serious 4WD test, but then I have watched a lot of TG UK shows and never seen a serious 4WD test there either.

I thought this week's show was pretty well done.

Although i thought that was bit wrong as it is a big No No to use your brakes doing down a step hill anway. It is all about engine brakeing and taking the car down the hill under control . Unlike the skiding and droping patrol that did do it
