if you were an accountant you would have told us how much you have saved on the depreciation and the saving for not having finance on it. You would also be wearing a brown cardigan and would probably never take the risk of not having insurance.

Thanks Damo for the "Balance", your projected figures are not too far off the pace, the fuel component of my 21000+ kms = $5038 so I must be getting a bit better than the 20L per 100k. (but not much on average) for the best part of the year I think I was paying about $145+ a litre for premium and a high of $183 when in Arkaroola recently.
Considering that I could have saved $8,000 over 4 years by your figures that is about the extra I would have had to pay for a diesel equivalent at the time.
So I will call it a draw for running either a petrol or diesel disco over a 4 - 5 year period with similar use to mine. (But mine is more fun to drive :) )
Like I said previously we can all make the figures look good for what ever argument one puts forward (we learn that from our politicians don't we)
I hope I have made the point at least that a V8 petrol is not the evil entity  it is portrayed as by many and that for someone doing about 20,000k or less per year then a V8 can be a viable economic alternative and did I already say "a lot more fun to drive" (sorry please give me some poetic license).
I do appreciate that you have been subjective in your comparison and we both agree that we enjoy our vehicles so we are both winners
Thommo
P.S. I just did some sharpening of my pencil and have calculated that I have averaged 16.9 litres per 100 ks for the entire year (even I am surprised)
Great read.
I got the V8 as I love the sound, just as I did 20yrs ago in my Rover SD1.
... But I also loved my old 2.2L Hilux Diesel 4x4 'cos I loved the sound...:whistling:
Getting something near the end of its depretiation is the biggest saver.
A mate of mine had a 2.2 hilux and you almost had to turn the radio off going up hills. They never wore out as the motor didn't have enough power to break anything. Pat
