Thread: Hippo-liner in your load area.

The load area of my 90 was starting to look at bit ratty after about five years worth of crap being loaded and thrown into the back of it. There wasn’t any great damage, just a lot of scrapes and scratches in the paint on the wheel boxes.

I decided to coat the load area with some Hippo-liner, which can be sprayed or brushed on. I went with the brush/roller method which was fairly straight forward and gave me a pretty good result for just over $115 worth of product and materials. (Compared to a quote for over $800 for Rhino-Liner or Speedliner to do it.)
Overall it’s quite an easy DYI job if you have a few days to do it over. I also did the front foot wells and put a bit of sound deadening in at the same time which made it take longer.

Firstly clean everything with wax and grease remover and then start sanding back the paint. The instructions state that you don’t need to go back to bare metal, just enough to rough up the paint. I’m not sure if went too far but I had a lot of scratches in the back there.





Then tape up any areas you don’t want lined….. This is very important because the Liner sticks to everything and is difficult to remove when it starts to dry.

I didn’t take any photos whilst I was actually rolling the liner on. Didn’t want to get any of it on the Minister for War and Finances' new camera…. I did however get quite a bit on my hands and arms, even whilst wearing gloves. And the instructions aren’t exaggerating when they say it is very, very difficult to get it off.

Does it dry to a hard finish?

I only ask this because the underbody noise deadener stuff you get from Supercheap never seems to dry hard, which I dont like.
