Talking Proposal to rename the TD5

I might be being a we bit silly here... but the new Defender has a TDCI engine called a "Puma". People are now calling it a "Puma" Defender.

I thought why not call the TD5 by it's original name, "STORM"

    Thoughts ?

You could change your username to Captain Troublemaker at the same time.

    Its all quite simple:

The new Defender is referred to as the Puma and TDCi. TDCi is also what Ford names a lot of its diesel engines.

The Td5 engine was code named Storm, but this was used in both Defender and Discovery as was the 200/300Tdi engine.

So for some reason people (probably starting in the UK) started to refer to the new Defender by its code name of Puma, something which doesn't apply to the previous models, only to their engines.

dont bite their just jelous, i'm surprised there only picking up on it now when I have called my defender by puma since I owned it (over a year) as have all the defender owners in the PUMA section on defender2 website......

like I said what ever floats your boat if you want to call your td5's "storm" to feel special we will support you as PUMA owners

i cant wait to see how many people it confuses

does that not mean that ranger rover sport owners now have to refer to thier cars as the range stormer? and paint it orange
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

Fixed, spell checker missed that one... now where's the grammar checker

For some reason they never did use the name storm for anything other than the engine. Also, when you think about it, whilst they sound OK to those in the know, Storm Defender or Defender Storm or Discovery Storm are not really that catchy for the marketing types as Puma.

The one I could never work out is when I replaced my intercooler with a bigger one in my Td5 Disco it had THOR typed on a sticker on it.

If I remember on the weekend I'll try and get a picture of the large green sticker on the chassis of the Defender that says PUMA. Disco never had anything like this.
