Thread: One dead TD5 Disco

my fender did the same a while back, turned over but would not fire - turned out to be a stuffed starter motor (somehow got signals to ECU stuffed while under load).
In your case could be quite different considering you were driving when all went dead - suppose it will be a connector/sensor somewhere.

Crank position sensor?

Is the injector loom plug connected?

Is the engine management light on?

Is the security light flashing or constant?
That's the red light, bottom middle of the instrument panel.

A constant security light means the imobiliser needs reseting, you'll need the security code for that.

No tell tale warning lights on the dash showing. All plugs (to my limited knowledge) seem plugged in and dry. Fuel pump seems to scream a bit, I am tending to think (hope) that the pressure is down and a new pump could fix that, but an expensive experiment. The problem is that I have no way of checking the pressure, (it squirts rather than dribbles) and now, as a bonus, my battery is becoming suspect.

Check the fuel filter for an air gap, sometimes the middle O-ring on the filter can get stuck in the housing and when the new filter is fitted it will leave an air gap, i've had this happen.

Also try a reset, it can work sometimes.

Key in and in the off position

Open door

Pull key out, then put back

Close door

Then start car

If it was running and stopped dead, its unlikely to be the in tank fuel pump.

Do you have a Nanocom or any other diagnostics?

There arent that many things that will stop it dead... did it just stop or run badly then stop?

Update on this. I popped over earlier to read the codes for Glen.

There are 2 current ones which may be affecting it. One of which I dont understand, and havent seen before.

The first current one was:

03-07 Air flow circuit

The other one was:

23-04 Unable to detect remote CAN mode

What does that mean?

There were 4 logged ones on injectors, and one logged for ambient pressure (02-08)

I didnt take any spares with me as I forgot them so I couldnt swap out the AFM but it wouldnt have mattered at the moment anyway as the batter is too flat.

I'd be looking at crank sensor or fuel pump. Drain the fuel filter and then see if you can prime it - that should show if the fuel pump's working.
