It's okay, mate, Sydney doesn't like you either.

Hi Shonky,
As someone who grew up in Woombye area and works for QAS I can probably help you with some advice... (Hopefully);)
Woombye is a great little town, there is an IGA which is pretty well stocked, and local butchers, bakery, doctors surgery and a vet.... and most importantly a Pub!!!
Prices round the Woombye / Palmwoods/ Nambour area are likely to be more affordable than Buderim/ Sippy Downs, with the recent economic downturn many investors are nervous and the real estate market is s_l_o_w!!! (Dad is a R/E agent in Woombye).
As far as QAS student selection, living in an area is never a factor to recruitment, so be prepared to be patient.
I have a friend who recently got onto the QAS Student Program (Diploma) who lives on the Sunny Coast, he took nearly two years to get on. With this in mind if you based yourself at Caboolture/ Burpengary you probably would get a position in Brissy if you were prepared to commute.
PM me if you want more info, QAS is currently recruiting like crazy and theres a few tips I could give you to help...:)
Best-o-luck...
Johnsy
Thanks Johnsy - I will PM you!
I am well prepared to re-apply many times before I get in. It seems to be the norm for all services. ;)
I wouldn't be moving up there unless I got a job, so in reality I would move wherever I was posted. Maroochy would be my pick though! Taking a step back, there is just as much of a chance of me getting a job with ACTAS and moving there instead (but would prefer Qld)
Woombeye and surrounds is really appealing to me at the moment. It is the price I want, the type of area I want with the size blocks I want. It is close enough to beach / shops / uni / cafes / girly things for SWMBO and has *gasp* a railway line!
This was in the local paper today relating to paramedics on the Sunshine Coast.

Getting posted to the Sunshine Coast can be very difficult.
NSW has only very recently dropped the term "Ambulance Officer". Now they are all "Paramedics" with those of an advanced skill set being "Intensive Care Paramedics".
OOOH yeah... That's a very good way to make an Ambo very cross indeed!
