Yep LR have a future unlike GMH and Ford Australia with their parent company,s in the US on the brink of bankruptcy
Hows the chinese or indian owned falcon or comordore going to sell down under![]()
Just saw this on ABC News web-site:
Ford Geelong plant gets reprieve - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
It means the inline 6 cylinder Ford engine will continue for a bit longer than expected.
I wonder what the inside story behind this is, though. Maybe Ford in US will not be around to supply V6 engines, which was the plan up to now.
There are some very scarey scenarios for the motor industry floating around at this time - particularly the credit problems for dealerships, which is also referred to in the above link.
At the moment, I'm feeling better about LR being sold to TATA.
Cheers,
Lionel

The question no one is asking is why they are going under. All they need to do is make cars people want, not old donkeys. Pat
Maybe Ford was considering it preferable to have shorter engine compartments in future models. However, it appears to me that an in line 6 cylinder motor should be cheaper to make than a V6 of the same capacity. So it seems Ford Australia are just going to do some improvements on what they already have to conform to emission standards. Probably a safer bet than any largely new design, with increased risk of problems and warranty claims.
In recent years there have been knockers of the Jeep in line 6, which is slightly longer between cylinder centres than Falcon and Holden, claiming it was antiquated - with pushrods and hydraulic lifters. It is was what evolved from the 232 cubic inch Rambler /American Motors Corporation motor that was a new design in April 1964. I wonder how the V6 that replaced it compares on cost and long term reliability?
Will be interesting to see how long the British or European Ford motor will be used in Defenders under Tata ownership.

LR are smaller than both and make money.96m profit is nothing. How many bomberdoors are fleet sales'take them away and the bottom line would be different.Old cars, old idea's no hope.If ford dropped the TDV6 in the falcon it would be an instant success, but then that would be too forward thinking for them. Pat
What planet are you from old cars , old ideas
I might work for one of these major car companys and im not a fan of the crumpledore , ill tell you one thing they are both up there with the best of them for advancement in ideas
Your new Ford or holden is not a retro 50,s time bomb rust bucket![]()
Time to buy a new wheels magazineyou can't keep reading the 1983 april edition. Ford and Holden have come a long way in the last few years . And around here you don't see to many fleet cars but still a lot of falcons and commodores getting around
. The aussie market is doing well and both these cars will be around for a long time
