Who said V8s don't like water.
It looked like the RRC had a very wet air cleaner also by the way the exhaust was steaming.
I would not like to do that without a snorkel and particularly in diesel without a snorkel.
It was all pretty stupid, seeing that if one stopped it was all stopped, with no way to overtake and tow.
Still I think it shows that the fears of many that V8s stop at the sight of water is more about ignition condition, and you cannot be sure that those were in good nick considering the "five hundred pounds " comment which I assume was the purchase price of the v8 Rangie in UK.

Thanks for the "stupid" comment philip........

Erm, and you both assumed none had snorkels..... why ?

All 4 vehicles had snorkels, 3 petrols (2 V8's) and My TD5 and NEITHER of the V8's had any running issues at all...and to assume a vehicle is not in good nick cos it cost £500 is just silly tbh......

    Apologies . One shouldn't assume,
I was not criticising about the 500 pound Rangie.. I was trying to make the point that seeing it was a 500 pound Rangie, the probability is that the ignition is not in tip top condition yet it still was able to go through really deep water.
There are many people on this forum who claim that V8s are absolutely no good in water ( diesel owners??) and they advocate pressurising the distributor and other exotic "fixes"
If you read carefully I didn't say they didn't have snorkels ( but I must admit I thought they didn't LOL)
I still think the whole adventure was ill advised, but then I have an aversion to draining axles, drying ECUs etc. If one car had stopped it appears to me that there was no easy solution, but again I may be wrong. Perhaps there were escape routes, but it didn't look like it.
I guess I would have sent the diesel first and waited at every shallow section, and I would have had snatch straps attached to all cars, and I would have had blinds on every vehicle.
We do not know that from the video so maybe you did.
But hey you made it without problems so congratulations.

And yes I have driven deeper water than that with a carby Rangie ( about 1.1 metres) without a snorkel, that floated at one stage. That was stupid but no choice as it was a 4 hour return if we didn't cross.
