Guess that depends on how much value you put on your life or the lives of others. Less reaction time, less time to impact, exponentially more effect of impact. I would rather get there 10% slower than kill a person i love 10% faster.
If one is driving on a good, safe road at 110KPH in a 100KPH zone we are told that we are doing something dangerous. Mostly we agree "in principle" without really questioning the reality.
At 110KPH we are on the road for only about 90% of the time. If everyone else is doing 110KPH we will see LESS vehicles during our journey. The road will be less congested, because each vehicle will be on the road for only 90% of the time.
Now at 110KPH our braking and reaction times are not as safe, but are they so bad as to offset the value of 10% LESS time on the road, and 10% LESS other traffic?
I don't really think so!!

well I guess if you could exceed the speed of sound, theoretically you could be on the road for lets say 10% of the time... but would the risk be 10x more? probably far in excess of that!
anyway, its about the driving culture, road quality and expectation of the drivers around you - that's how autobahns work, fast and slow(ish) lanes, lanes to slow down etc... braking is actively discouraged as it causes accidents - merge to the right (in Germany remember) and slow down through rolling resistance to a safe speed to exit. if you time it right, you do not need to brake until after entering the exit ramp... this is normal... but it aint in Oz - everu tom dick and harry would rather change lanes aggressively, cut in front of trucks and jump on the brakes etc to exit - this is the big problem on highways...
minor roads, feeder roads etc? totally different scenario!
urmmm....
were you standing down wind the last time the cops were doing a burn off?

so if I upgrade my brakes and decrease my reaction time (chopsticks and fly will do) and drive at 1000km/h (10 times the speed limit) I am 100% (nil) times less likely to have an accident? How do I go about strapping 2 Veyrons together??seriously though, I'm on your side, speed limits need revision.

I would rather be caught in traffic for a while than to risk my own of someone else's life, I'm highly against speeding on public roads, seeing how most accidents seem to kill people who weren't the one's breaking the law (i.e speeding, drink driving etc).If I could I'd become a highway cop to stop this sort of stuff, it really ****es me off.

I get amused when I check the tyre pressure sticker on my RR. There are two sets of pressures shown.
One set of pressure settings is for speeds of less than 160 KPH and the other set is for speeds over 160 KPH and I have to be honest, living here in Australia, I am so glad we don’t have motorways that allow such high speeds because our death toll would be horrendous.
I totally agree with what EchiDna, higher road speeds just wouldn’t work in this country.
Here’s a bit of trivia, 60 KPH is the speed at which the greatest number of vehicles can travel over a given section of road in a give time period.
Less than 60 and the time it takes each vehicle to travel is longer meaning less vehicles in a given time period.
Any faster than 60 and the distance needed between each vehicle for safe travel reduces the number of vehicles that can occupy the same given section of road.
thought for the day......
NT introduces speed limits on highways........ road toll goes up
