    Now I've seen it all,,

I went downstairs to the front of the building at work during my break for a smoko , and a bloke of islander descendant on a push bike holding a bag approached me and a colleague asking for a $1.00 change , he had paint all over his face , when we told him we didn't have a spare dollar he mumbled something and rode away on his Pushie sniffing the stuff out of the bag.

There is some sad people about. Where I regularly work a guy who is dressed quite well rides his push bike up to people and asks for spare dollars and smokes. I usually abuse him and tell him to get a job. Unfortunately many people are conned and give him money.
Another loser who looks like he has not washed for years and wears a really tattered old suit but no shoes goes along and empties all the ash trays onto the ground and takes any old butts that have more than a few mm left on them. This guy looks to be quite young, probably mid twenties. Given the nature of the place the people there are quite forgiving.
Lucky I am not in charge of the building.

In broad daylight to..tut tut tut
About two years ago me and a mate were catching a train and when we got on the train there was a kid probably about 11 years old and he was chroming from a plastic bag inside a paper bag and he asked my mate if he could open the train door (while the train was moving) so that he could jump out, believe it or not my mate put his foot on the door handle and pushed it open (I know what your thinking, and yes hes an idiot for opening the door of a train while its moving so that a small high kid could go for a fly), the kid didn't jump, he just went back to the bag. And then my mate continued to sing to the few passengers on board the train and asking them if they think he could be an Australian Idol, just like he was doing before the kid asked for his assistance.

Geez, you guys should try working in the city (Sydney). There's millions of them (well, not literally, but you get my point!)

Some of them are quite decent blokes down on their luck, others are just a waste of space who make a living from begging.

Funnily enough, just finished reading a book about a serial killer called "the Mutilator" who in the 60's preyed on the homeless in Sydney. His MO was to lure them into an alley with the promise of a couple of beers, where there weren't people about, (in those days, if you got caught drinking in the street, it was quite a serious matter), then he'd knife them in a frenzy, and cut off their penises & balls. (He blamed his actions on the fact that when he was in the Army a Corporal raped him - yet he was a homosexual, go figure). All but one of his victims had recently broken up with their wives & had nowhere to live (things were very different in those days!) They were understandably very depressed, missing their wives & kids. Don't know how true that is, but I imagine there would be at least a bit of truth in it.

There's one particular homeless dude I talk to quite frequently. He never expects any money, just likes a bit of a yarn. So they're not all the scum of the earth.

    Maate,
I'll say I've seen it all, when one day in the city someone does'nt put the bite on me.
Geez Im 56 and when I was about 12 a tramp in the city asked a mate and me "for a shilling so an old digger can get the train home". We stumped up and the old bludger turned around & went straight into Young & Jacksons and bought a beer. My mate was peeved enough to tell a copper who said "I hope you learnt a lesson".
    We did

I've worked in the city for number of years ( app 18 yrs ) &
I've seen all sorts of hobos , beggers and Drunks and the homeless,
one particular incident that sticks in back on my mind was , one
night on the way to a Thai restaurant to get some dinner
i walked past an old Hobo who'd just sobered up after nearly drowning
himself of his drink , he was throwing insults at asian woman
saying to them " excuse me Can I make you pregnant "

well ,back then I thought it was rather funny , but it also really peed me
off the lack of respect he had for asian woman in genaral,
well I approached him and told him if he continues carrying on
the way he was and doesn't settle down I will report him.
but deep down really felt sorry for him , felt sorry of the state
that he reduced himself to ... the same way it saddened me to see
    another human being sniffing Paint.
But I never saw him as Scum of the earth .

The mutilator also practiced in Brisbane. It was said that he was about to murder a woman so he could get a box to keep his tools in.

Maybe he was suggesting that the idol wannabe should jump off the train.

I am not sure what you mean but homosexuals can be raped too, they don't find every other guy attractive.

I know one of the young, homeless guys near us at work is only that way as he never recovered from his fiancée dumping him. Couldn't concentrate on his job and downhill from there.

I don't mind giving them a few bucks or if I am handy to a shop buying them a meal, which to be honest they normally don't want. But sometimes they do and appreciate it. I gave a guy $5 once as he said he needed it for medication and sure enough he went straight into the chemist and pulled out a prescription. Yes I know that most of the time the money is spent on booze and I am soon forgotten but what does that matter. There are worse things they could be doing to get hold of the cash.
