Company I worked for had a camp there in 1963. The blokes in the camp wanted to ensure that the water was safe for swimming in, as one of them was reputed to live in it. So they baited it with 100pounds of Dr Nobel's expanding bait. Didn't get any crocs, but filled every freezer in Burketown with fish. Gave up on the swimming idea.

I was not in the camp at the time, although I did visit it once. I was in a camp at the time SE of Normanton.

A sad sight indeed, a symbol of our inability to cope with the natural environment.

Croc leather? I bet the whole thing rots, while they have a few beers and tell each other how dangerouse it was.

I bet whoever shot it thinks he's abit of a hero, and not the **** that he actually is.

John, was that concrete cast of the monster croc. in Normanton then? It was supposed to have been shot in the main street. Much of its tail had been bitten off. I was looking upon it with awe and a local asked how would I have liked to meet the the one that won the fight.

On the point of shooting dogs its not the dog that should be shot but the

owner...as for the poor croc well he should have been re-located not killed

we u-mans **** me the only things on this planet that enjoys killing its a

shame there isn't a species higher than us that treats us the way we

treat everything, we might look a bit differently on killing things then

No, I think that must have come later - I'm sure I would have remembered it if it had been there, as I was in town quite a bit when the camp was about halfway between Normanton and Croydon.
