Thread: Australia - WOW...

Well folks,
Firstly I ought to apologise for being completely crap at updating everyone of our progress whilst on our merry jollies! My excuse is that Leeds was doing an admirable job (even if he is a little eager to blame his 'prentice'), so why reinvent the wheel!


That said what a fantastic time we had. It was a refreshing change to be so welcomed by everyone we spoke to (extended thanks to Lewy). The only hostilities I came across where those pesky ants, it seems they are much more partial to like my ankles than they are camel dung (or whetever they eat)!! Even the car was relitavely well behaved - generally it only stopped for me to repair an Aussie mechanic's botched repair!!

As for the tent requirements that was discussed before I went - I ended up with a 2 man Black Wolf mozzie tent with seperate fly, Thermarest matteress thingy and my 3 season sleeping bag. Most nights the sleeping bag didnt get used - The fly certainly did though and I can vouch that those little tents are pretty much bomb proof, withstanding constant ant and sand fly attack as well as several tropical storms. My only comment would be that the sides of the fly are a little short and rain can blow in.

There is so much I could write about the adventure, most of it would seem random fragments of witter so I wont bother. However, bottom line is that I want to book some more flight tickets and another container for the 110 for a return adventure - high praise indeed!

Oh and for the record, a change of 40 degrees C in temperature (downwards) and going from desert like conditions to 100mm of snow in a little over 24hrs is not good for ones health!! Im now sat in the office with the air-con sat on max heat... and Im still not warm!!!

Going by the weather where I am (central NSW coast), it would have been more forgiving than it would normally be.

Yeah we survived - seeing a whole range of weather that baked the ground hard and then swiftly turned tracks into rivers. Rear axle locker and winches were employed a few times though... and not all when I was driving before "he" starts

One thing that surprised me was just how quickly a sandy roadside became covered in lush green grass following a little watering from above.

Sydney weather seemed odd - even I thought it was fairly cool (compared to the previous weeks in the centre). One morning it was even cold!!
