    RTA E-Tags

So after a lot of complaints about the non-refundable deposit on NSW RTA Etags - the NSW RTA has done away with them - BUT - has now brought in a monthly administration fee to compensate . End result is the same as other NSW etags and overall costs will now be greater.

I do not go to Sydney because of the Tolls as it is all too hard without an etag and I will not be getting one now. So if you own a business you should complain to the tourist minister because a lot of country folks will not go near Sydney because of them.

NSW - what a strange Government - unfortunately in that state the opposition are as bad.

Where does that leave current RTA Etag holders?

You don't need an etag to go to Sydney - you can get anywhere you need to without going through a toll, and some of the motorways still take cash.

Can you actually get across the harbour without one ?
I thought they've done away with all the booths on the bridge, as well as the tunnel now ?

I have a Roam account so I can use the M2 and M7, they just take a picture of the number plate and bill my account.
I have the Patrol, Defender and horse float on it, but it's useless on the other toll roads (and hasn't been used in two years)

What about those form interstate too ?

You only pay the toll on the bridge when heading North. If you're heading south and don't want to pay, ANZAC bridge is an option.

Anyway my point is that you don't NEED a tag to get around.

I have a mate from Canberra who comes up once a month, he just calls the toll operator and pays over the phone when he gets home.

Interstate folk from Vic and Qld can use their tags here.

I'm told the CityLink and Eastlink ( Vic) E tags will work on the Sydney tollways.

So I can go from down town Sydney to Manly by a quick road route without paying a toll or needing an e-tag - I think not.

A lot of people who do not know the road system find themselves on tollroads and end up with the fine or the toll plus all the associated administration charges. It is easier just not to go there.

Yup. You just need to pay coming back south when you go over the bridge.

In Qld we used to have a refundable deposit of about $40 but they did away with that and credited it back to your account if you had already paid it.
However then they tried to bring in a $10/quarter minimum charge. However they never got it through. So now we don't pay anything other than the actual tolls AFAIK.

They also used to have a $110 credit if you paid $100. So $10 extra free. Not sure if they still do that or not.

On ACA there was a guy with a Hilux that lived in Vic and had a NSW etoll (or the other way around) as he said it was cheaper as his home State wanted to call his Hilux a truck and charge a higher toll.
