I imagine they brought in what they thought they could sell and kitted them out with what they thought people wanted all without losing sight of the overall cost to fit them in with the market and ADRs at the time.
What are the real reasons we get a limited LR range in Aus?
Two things from the past spring to mind - 200Tdi auto Discos - what did LRA have to "evaluate" before determining whether to offer them for sale here?
The other - Tdi RRs?
Oh and another - why not EDC 300Tdis?
I imagine they brought in what they thought they could sell and kitted them out with what they thought people wanted all without losing sight of the overall cost to fit them in with the market and ADRs at the time.
If they sold 130's with twin bags I'd order one tommorrow. Pat
I think the main reason is simply that their total sales are so small that they do not want to have to organise ADR compliance plus spares backup plus dealer training (don't laugh) for too many different different models. They do their best guess as to which ones will sell in the largest numbers, or which fit in best to their marketing strategy. Of course, they don't always get it right, and whichever models they do bring in, someone will criticise the choice.
A prime example of where the marketing strategy dominated their thinking was when the 110 was dropped and the Defender not introduced with the introduction of the Discovery, as the company tried to realign itself as purely the maker of luxury cars. Enough customers apparently complained that they eventually introduced the Defender in that case.
They have never sold every model made here, but at least when they had a large market in the 50s, sixties and early seventies (and when ADRs either did not exist or had minimal compliance costs) they would bring in extra models on request or it was easy for the dealer to import directly.
The problems of adding an extra model are greatest for a different engine or body style.

I would agree with the ADR requirements being the main reason.

At least sales are increasing, for the first time since 2002 sales have exceeded 4000 this year in Australia.
