    Cool bio fuels

I think we are seeing the results of a combination of high interest rates for thirty years (which make long term planning unviable) plus most shares being held by funds whose only interest is in the quarterly profit result, plus legal requirements for directors to act in the shareholder's interests. Refining has been a mug's game for many years, particularly in Australia - I was peripherally involved in the work that led to BHP deciding NOT to get involved in refining and marketing of petroleum products. Returns from refining and marketing are not worth investing money in. Although prior to the current financial meltdown it looked like a real worldwide shortage of refining capacity was developing. Not now though.

dos any one know who looks after it ? will find out at some stage what went wrong from the pressure industry association . Things don't catch fire and explode for a reason into a fire ball . Go work place heath and safety some thing was wrong big time as the flare was one big ball of yellow puss . nitrogen in gas lines to shut it down ? just turn the fuel supply line off .

Shortage has started to some degree

But does this mean fuel will be in short supply in Brisbane and prices will go up if the Catlex plant is shut down for any length of time?? It'll be interesting to see what happens.
Diesel has run out at BP Ferny Grove and according to the attendant all surrounding suburbs have also run out. He suggested that the roadhouse stations were getting deliveries but not many others although a call to the BP at Bowen Bridge found that they are blissfully unaware of any shortage. The shell at Kelvin Grove took a delivery yesterday morning but demand was high and he was not sure it would last until Friday morning. Hopefully he does as I will be going past there at 6:30.

BP Ferny Grove do expect a delivery mid next week.

Neither of the two who knew about the shortage were particularly panicky so I am not suggesting a major problem but in response to White110's question then yes we are seeing a shortage and I would assume prices would rise to some degree.

Nitrogen is used to purge the lines of fuel and residual traces of fuel and gas. Not as simple as just turning the fuel off.

"MOTORISTS can expect fuel shortages across southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales following a fire which shut down the Caltex refinery in Brisbane.
Caltex said some of its service stations would run short of fuel in coming days, following the fire last week.

"The tight supply availability is due to the unplanned shutdown of Caltex's Lytton refinery on Friday, December 12," the company said.

"The refinery is being progressively brought back to full production."

Arrangements have been put in place to ensure emergency services vehicles remain supplied with fuel."
