Probably a bit late but Ferdinand de Lesseps was apparently an excellent Engineer but sadly he was more into Canals than sheds. I doubt you could approach him these days as he is probably 2m under somewhere.

When I have mentioned in the past about folk complaining about "Off Topic" subjects I reckon that when a Topic has had the arse thrashed off it there is room for going OT & taking different paths, as they can open up such different views usually far away from the initial Topic.

When I did my shed extension (11 x 12m) with a mezzanine in half of it I just drew it up and gave it to THE shed mob in Geelong.

THEY did all the engineering drawings and gave me a price as a delivered kit, which was far less than expected. Can PM the name.

No house here, so I could be the builder without having to do the course or register. One of those quirks. [bigrolf]

I wouldn't even consider trying to do a slab that size myself. Get prices once you know the footing dimensions.

I did mine with the footings and slab in one. Assembled the frames on the slab and lifted with a jib I made for the FEL on the tractor. Tallest are nearly 6m.

That's when a couple of cars pulled up opposite a couple of times, with the owners out having very animated phone discussions to...............?

Have a fair idea who they were.

Wasn't worried.............. I was the owner and builder and it was legal. Scaffold at my discretion. [bigwhistle]

6m spans are 250mm C section here. You're welcome to pop down for a cuppa and squiz if you like.

The sticky beaks do have to get more cash for the Xmas Party yer know.

While yours may be ok ( I am not a qualified designer or constructor of sheds) they do need to safeguard the environment of your neighborhood because some residents may not be as consciences or qualified as you & erect a heap of ****e which could blow down,during the next big blow injuring/killing/maiming other persons inc. you, & damaging other property . After such an event the ****e could hit the fan & many questions would be asked with possible Legal action. I know it irks, but in reality while it may not seem like it, "they" are only doing their jobs in your interests & of course it all adds to their Treasury & their Xmas Party Fund.

I suspect yo know all this anyway.

It was all legit, council approved. I had to get a planning permit (took less than 10 days) coz of the proximity to the house next door.

The private building surveyor I used helped a lot with the 'side issues' and just made it a breeze right through to the final inspection.

The sticky beaks were most likely associated with putting up sheds.

Yeah, they make it so easy we all want to follow the rules. I'll tell you a story someday about trying to get approval for our house extension. If you can avoid dealing the council ..... Do it .... take the risk. If they weren't so hard to deal with, more poeple would do the right thing. You would think any sort of building on rural acreage with no overlays, not vegetation removal, no fire issues, no native flaura of fauna, not easements..... would be simple right ? You just pick your bit of grass across the acreage and start building .... Yeah right [bighmmm] I was also concerned as none of the shedding here has permit.... so what if they "decided" the shed I was building next to required a permit ... or to come down as well :wallbash: (don't laugh, this is the council we are talking about, they can do anything they feel like). When we purchased the house about 10years ago, we had to sign something saying we are accepting liability for existing shedding (or something similar to that) as it has no permits. a couple of the old sheds look like they were build with already ancient/used materials 30years ago.

Either way, I've contacted a few places and as soon as they see what I'm planning they say "oh our software doesn't deal with skillions". I'm guessing I'll need a proper engineer that actually knows what they are looking at rather than a shed company that must use software that does any checks and balances. I think I'll just change it to be a normal 12 x 12 gable so engineering is simple. The purlin brackets mob so they can do engineering for a 4.1 meter walls with 5meter gable which means I'll still be able to use all the same materials that are already here. I spent a fortune buying new cladding for this shed and the house roof. So it will look "brand new" an not an eyesore to the neighbours.

with regards to the floor. That will come later, it'll just have gravel put down for now. A floor is big money ... a lot more than I have to spend!
