First and foremost this was a tragic incident, which (in my opinion) could have been so easily avoided. Gresh is well know on the UK LR forum circuit. Gresh will have to live with the consequences of his action for the remainder of his life. In my opinion the courts can not punish him any more then he has already been punished.
A few media links for those that are interested. Please note that they concentrate on the more serious charges of death by dangerous driving

Obviously many more media reports exist. The media reports concentrate on the death by dangerous driving angle.
The jury found him guilty after less then 2 hours deliberation on 4 counts of causing death by dangerous driving and 16 counts of vehicle neglect (either bad repairs or not carried out repairs)
I believe that this case will bring about both legal and insurance changes for the modified vehicle section of the UK and hopefully will result in more dangerous/neglected vehicles being taken off the road.
There are in very different reactions to this sad case in the UK.
These vary from it should never have been taken to court/the guy has suffered enough. I believe that it should have been as society has a right to know what happened and see if steps can be taken to avoid such tragic incidents in the future.
The other driver did not give way so it was his fault. The other driver was driving a transit towing a canoe trailer and I do not think a vehicle towing should give way to a car.
The 110 passed the MOT so it was safe and/or MOT station fault!!! The different brake caliper and the +1" rear welded up trailing arm was fitted after the MOT.
Speed was not an issue here. After travelling down the grass verge for some distance so Transit and trailer could pass, the 110 tried to regain the bitumen, spun 180 degrees so was facing the way it come and then rolled into the river. Hardly compatible with driving at a slow speed.
Then there are the obvious lock him up and throw away the key types. No need to comment really.
I believe that this incident was avoidable and the 4 kids paid for their fathers mistakes with their lives. The father and siblings along with their mother will be tormented about this day for rest of their lives.
I can not help wondering what the UK LR community reaction would have been if another marque had been involved, or if the 110 suffered a major mechanical failure and killed someones else kids?
Regards
Brendan
