    the Australian black Panther

A couple of days ago you may have see on TV A Current Affair the story of the Black Pantha like animal, in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.

Has any one of the forum members seen one?

My father saw one in the 1930's when hunting rabbits, probably in South Australia, near the victorian border. He is dead now so I can not check with him. I saw one in the late 1970's, or up to 1982, in a gorge at the edge of the New England plateau, probably the Styx river--Have to check with a friend I was with for the exact location. My son say one north of Nimbin a few months ago. I was driving and he said "did you see that," which sadly I didn't. Should add that none of us drank, or used drugs. In about 1972 I was at Church Creek Caves, on the Cowmung river, and the bush walking party that arrived to join us, said they had seen a large black cat like creature. Just wondering if any forum members have seen one of these.

I may have seen others briefly, when something large and black ran across the road at night and up an embankment cutting, but it was in the headlights for too brief a moment. In the mid 1990s, about a kilometer from where my son saw his one, walking home at 2.00 AM on a dark quiet dirt road, carrying a backpack, I felt sure something was stalking me for about 300 meters of that 4 kilometer walk. I did pick up a big stick on the ide of the road, at that time, thinking it was a dog, and kept looking back but did not see anything.

If it was one, and if they are a Black Pantha, from a circus in 1920's as some people suggest, their is a lot of road kill on our roads, to keep them well fed. Often I have seen road kill and the next day it is gone. But National parks does cut open road kill to examine its stomach contents. So that could explain why some road kill disapears. If I cut down the trees, and walked the other way to 1 KM to top of my road, I would be able to see 5 national parks from where I live.
Some farmers may feed road kill to their dogs. But we see a real lot of it disappear from on the road.

Yes, I saw the story... it is a rare occurence for the TV to go on to ACA stuff but it was interesting. Especially with a few pics of things people have seen.

I don't know what to believe and I don't lose sleep over any of it but nature sure can harbor very interesting creatures and I would not be suprised either way.

I'd just love to see one though.

    Panther

Yup, about 5 years the Dept. of War, myself and the others camped at Telegraph Pool on the Fitzroy river saw one on the other side of the Fitzroy calmly wandering amongst the crocs. Way to big for a wild cat or dog!

Various credible people I know claim to have spotted them in various locations in Victoria.

Arthur's Seat, Strathbogie Ranges and Eildon N.P. to name a few.

    Cheers

Myself and 3 other blokes saw one (big black cat with a long tail) up Cape York about 10 years ago on the Cooktown to Battle Camp road. There was no mistaking what it was. It took off into the scrub pretty quick. Not the first time I have seen one.

    I'm with Stevo.

Does anyone know where we can get a poster that says something like, "I want to see the evidence that will convince me"?

Does anyone have an explanation for the complete lack of physical evidence given the number of sightings?
