CD/MP3 Players and the remote??? Why?

Well after recently replacing the radio/cassette in the evil japanese thing (old one stopped working due to water fountain inside the dash... but that's another story! Oh what a feeling!)

I was talking last ngiht with a friend as it (and the one fitted to the Hyundai last year) with a remote control...

I have 1 question for the design team about this....

    WHY??????????

It is quicker and easier to use the controls! I am not going to give ot to the kids in the back so they can play with it and it is IR controlled so is pretty much useless unless your sitting in the car/standing behind it.

Does anyone use theirs and what the heck for???

It might come in handy sitting around the campfire, but other than that it sits in the glovebox.

so don't loose it! lol At least that makes sense.

Mine only does the basic's, volume, channel etc

Problem wth the campfire is being IR it is line of sight so you need to stand up and point it at it anyway!

Amazing bits of technology, I am surprised at the level which people will go to avoid lifting their hand to the dashboard, I mean I have seen people feeling under the bloody seat for it rather than reach for the dashboard while in motion.

Interesting concept but when put in the hands of the herds a menace on the road

lol - funny you should say that...

On my old 1989 Ford Falcon ute (I was sad to see her go... ) I got a new stereo from Strathfield Audio-majig so I could sell it, and my girlfriend would literally sit holding the remote so she didn't have to reach for the dash - I'd say it's disgusting but then you try it and realise it's the way of the future

Once you've realised how much energy it takes as a passenger to go back to manual dash-handling, you can never go back...

Poor ergonomics in all my cars means I have to lean out of the seat to reach the knobs & buttons. Remotes (when I can find them!) mean I stay firmly planted in the seat, eyes on the road, that kinda thing.

My 110 has the head unit in the cubby box, which is usually closed... I have one of those wired remotes, which is fixed to the dash, so that I can control it.

As I've also got one of the Dension iPod thingies, it means I can control the iPod using the remote too.

BTW - That's exactly the reason why my head unit is in the cubby box...
