british passport

I'm not sure you can get just a British passport any longer, I thought it was all EU (or EC) now.
I know when I went there last 20 years ago I had to wait a long time in the "aliens" queue whereas with a UK passport it would have been a walk through the Green Exit.
I'm not bothering with anything other than Aussie passports now as I refuse to have anything to do with the EU and it's ever increasing mountain of stupid legistlation.:mad:

I was born in UK. Had a UK passport - obviously. Came to God's own country to live. Became an Ozzie citizen, did not renew my UK passport. Now have an Ozzie passport and travel to the UK on it.
If they let me in... they will most probably let any one in :)

As for the "right of abode" sticker. I would check the prices first. Price of a UK passport? Price of "right of abode"?
I seem to remember that the "right of abode" is over $400

And as for what has been said before... if you don't want to work why bother? Stick with the Ozzie passport, might be much more cost effective.

Even when moving around in the EU an Australian passport can be an advantage. Check where you want to go as most places do not require a pre arranged visa so there is no UK passport advantage there.

Gone are the days when France used to require a visa a month in advance that had to be collected from the Embassy in London where they only looked at 100 applications a day all of which had to be made in person. This visa required the day and place of entry and same for leaving and it was not changeable once in the passport.

Have many times gone through immigration control in European countries faster than EU passport holders as there are only a couple of us and 100 EU passports to check. Even had this at Heathrow once on a flight back here from Australia when it seemed there were only a handfull of us foreigners on the plane. On most internal European flights I can go and collect the bags before the UK members of the party have cleared British passport / immigration control.

Did you renounce your UK citizenship?

I'm only going on my experience - hold three citizenships - and had exactly problems as I described.

At the time, since I was considered a citizen, I wasn't allowed to apply for a visa.

May not be the same now.

Visa???? Australians (entering on Australian passport) do not need a visa for UK unless staying for a long time or want to work.

hey guys thanks for the info so far,when i plan to go it will be for a good time and will be working over there but not sure where yet,its pretty far in the future but something im starting to plan now if this year goes well for me,:)
also my one of my grandparents is from wales if that makes any differance,

This whole thing can be confusing.
I applied for and received a "UK Ancestry" visa to go and live and work in the UK in 2000. It was valid for 4 years.
Im also married to a UK (Scottish) lady so I could have applied for whatever the 'by marriage' one was but the Ancestry visa was quicker and easier.
My wife is now effectively a 'dual' citizen and so are my kids. If we go back to live there, I would go under an Irish passport which I can get because my grandparents were Irish.
Australia used to not allow dual citizenship - but I think we have grown up and realised people are international now in their living and working lives.

Sorry Simon but that's garbage. How the hell would anyone know if you rocked up with a current Aus passport. My daughter has both Aus and Brit passports and uses either at will.
