Thread: Strange clicking noise

Hi all,

I'll try and explain this problem .....

I have a 98 manual D1, runs like a dream (touch wood) but the last few moinths this strange clicking noise has been slowly becoming more noticable. It happens when changing gears, mostly when changing up the gears ...ie 1st to 2nd to 3rd and so on .....

So it goes like this .... jump in start driving ... depress clutch, change gear and as i release the clutch and about the same time as the load comes back onto the drive train there is this audible click ... weird. Someone suggested that it may have been the uni joints, checked and greased, still does it. My mechanic says it maybe the ball bearing at the top of the box in the changer thing (???? I can't remember his actual words)

A very similar noise (although slightly louder) happens when going from 5th gear to neutral, this happens even when it is not moving or even running, is this normal ...??????

Can someone please shed some light on this for me ... is it something that i should be worried about ....... ??????
