Am afraid that racism is everywhere and part of everyone. It is part of the human make up to want to push ones 'family' ahead over all others. This comes from the herd instinct which is in our genes. It is how this is expressed and used that is important.
Have experienced more racism here in the UK than I ever saw back home.
Almost beat up by some (white) skin heads on Kings Road in London for being Australian. Saved by some Irish acents which it seems they dislike even more than Australians.
When employed at one place a big deal was made of the fact I was the first Australain they had ever employed. My background coloured everything I did while working there.
Landlord not renting me a house because I was white.
Abused in the street for being white.
At the moment there is a danger that the UK oil refineries will be closed down due to 'foreign' labour being used by one of the contractors who are working on a site. These foreigners are from Italy which is part of the EU of which the UK is part. Sort of like Queensland workers going on strike because there were some on site from Victoria.
Most problems I have seen at home are as have been said before due to people bringing their issues with them and attempting to carry on the fight here rather than leaving the bagage at the door. I went to a school where at least half those there were born overseas. Most families were able to make the adjustment others found it more difficult.
