Just as a macabre observation.
A friend's dead mother was given $2000 in October.
When he queried it with Centrelink he was told that it was OK and the estate could keep the money as she died after the cutoff point.
Now that money was not spent by the recipient straight away.
Regards Philip A
All the info is available on the ATO website but in summary it's based on you 2007-08 taxable income as per your notice of assessment

People whingeing about being given money.....
I can see where you are coming from Philip A, I'd be a bit pieved kinda like the fact that 28% of my wages go to my Ex, then last time she scored $1000 per kid, $900 per kid to send them back to school and shes only on a part pension, she works for a local council which gave her a large pay rise and bonus and then just after recieving all that asked if I could go halves in my sons school gear and camp as if I couldnt then he couldnt go or have most of the stuff he half needed but deffinately wanted.
Oh did I mention that we got nothing as we both work and are just above the pov line where our mortgage is 2/3's of our income.
I will accept my $950 with open arms and so will mrs mc but in saying that, being a dead beat single mum with boyfreind but claiming the bare min on the pension to keep the health care card will get...........nearly $5k from my calculations plus BF's $950 so near on $6k.
Maybe I should leave work, go on the dole, drink burbon most of the day and procriate as much as possible to fill the world with more of the dead beats that are already getting massive amounts of hand outs.
I thought they didnt want to have people in unemployment, if you were unemployed now, why the hell would you go back to work
it is an illusion, your taking $950 and thinking thats great, but in reality the whole cost of this 'recession buster' is about $2000 for every man woman and child.
They are taking 2000 and giving you 950!
That is the annoying point.
I'd prefer the money spent on infrastructure projects.
the cash bonus is BS and just a political stunt that the taxpayer pays for... thanks for nothing.
i get nothing regarless:p
Just personnaly, right now I'd prefer a hand UP, not a hand out.
cheers
Evelyn
What the focus should be on, is supporting Australian manufacturing instead people will spend the money on big TV's and all the money will end up in China's pocket. I heard some guy on the radio say he was going to throw a party down the coast and hire strippers and have a party on the government.
I am so glad I can pay my tax each week for that guy!!!! sorry I will get back in my box now.
probably not even going to happen anyway....don't know what everyone is geting up tight about
ok now it is suggested to be a lot higher:
Turnbull says government wants new debt of $9500 a head
maybe not 9500 but somewhere on the higher end....
Just trying to hide this recession with more debt just like the last bonus:
Australian retail trade rises
It's an illusion, hide the recession with heaps of government debt for future generations to pay off.
Sounds like a good idea to me...
