Gday all
Soon to be in the market for newer landy and i am looking at mid to late TDI fenders well i was till i seen the price tags 18-21K for a 97-98 180K+ fender is crazy as red book value such trucks between 7.5-10K mark whats going on 3 years back my mate payed 9.8K for a >200K 96 TDI fender in pristein condition ...
At this rate il unfortunately looking at other options 80 series GXL's in TD around 95-97 are selling for 7-12 K which is about right with the red book guide ....
Sowhy are defenders so exxy has anyone sold or purchased on reacently and what was the price ???
Cheers
Chris
I've just sold a 94 defender 110 tdi for $12000 & the buyer was well pleased !! I alot of other interest aswell.
Yes, Lokka. I've been looking at the market for a few months now and know what your saying. But the really expensive ones just don't seem to sell. It is ridiculous the cost of some though.
I think red book prices are lower than what's actually paid because of chronic "under-reporting" when people sell their cars, because it lowers the stamp duty.
Hi, If you are seriously looking and find something you like, you have to make the seller an offer - no matter how ridiculous. Often the prices asked are unrealistic and no one looks. If the seller needs to sell they will accept or try to negotiate or at least keep your number.
I have a mate who was trying to sell his Troopie - all the extras - around the middle of last year. All the adds were between $19,000 and $22,000 at the time. After about 8 weeks, heaps of outlay on adds, no one phoning ... he sold it to a dealer for $15,000

Here in Vic, the insurance companies can access the stamp duty paid online & if you declared you paid $5,000 for a 2001 defender & you write it off, guess what the payout figure is going to be. No prizes for correct guess.
Its the buyer who pays stamp duty, but seller has to sign transfer forms with sale price on it too.
I would agree that the red book price is not a true reflection of the market.
I looked for five months before I got my 94 300TDI.Paid $12000 from a dealer asking 15k for it.
235,000 on the clock and about 8k later it's sweet but I could not find one under 12 that was any good. plenty had rust in the doors and firewalls, so look out as no one seems too keen on repairing rust on fenders at a reasonable price.
15k to 18k seems to be the mark for sub 2000 model 300Tdi fenders unless your in SA.
Good Luck
Well that said why are most other brands within range surely red book cant be that far out FFS ....
Another thing ive also noticed is people listing mods/extras with costs i think there trying to reddem the money they out layed it dont work not in the current market or any other for that matter ....
I priced a county a 4BD1 8.5K <400K rusty firewall and doors and wont budge on price best of luck with that ..
