I guess buying a sewing machine is like buying a 4WD none of them are made in Australia. So after having Janome (Korean manuf. not a Japanese one) and an Elna overlocker which was a dud after it was serviced by Elna Aust. I bought a Husqvarna, show me a reliable well made Australian sewing machine and I'll buy it!

Like everyone. I feel very sorry for the workers that once again are getting shafted by corporate greed..

I do think however, much of the anger at the executive's income is rather misguided.

There have been union reps all over the TV tonight condemning the executives for being so "profit focused" that they have forgotten the workers..blah.. blah.. blah ..

I don't think that's quite right.

Don't get me wrong... most of the executives are greedy arseholes...... but a company focused on profit is a good thing... that's what gives all of us employees opportunities. (Some of the union bosses seem to forget that if a company doesn't make a profit... there members are in trouble.)

I would love to see these multi-million dollar salary packages directly linked to performance.

I see nothing wrong with an exec earning several million dollars per annum.

But, I feel that should only happen via a performance based contract: something like $140,000 pa + x% of after tax company profit......

That way if the company is not doing well.... neither do these greedy prats.

I am sure most shareholders would agree with me too. How many of us have seen greatly reduced share income due to sliding profits ... while some knob at the top gets a huge golden handshake.

At the moment it seems get to the top and write your own blank cheque is the rule of Corporate Australia.

Something has to happen to make these people more accountable for their decisions and the results of their actions.

Maybe I am not a realist.... but something has to happen....

Workers are customers as well and them you have the families and friends of these workers,When it comes down to it they a lot more customers lost now so how are they going to earn a production bonus. I wouldnt buy if I can help it, anything that is made in china as it will cost you a hell of a lot more in the end as it is rubbish and will end up as land fill a couple of weeks after buying it. I reckon they will have a about face when they have been dealt a big blow from us the public when sales take a huge dive over next few weeks. Unions are their to keep these bastards honest. If they dont help us all our jobs will be goin off shore. Its un-AUSTRALIAN I tells ya.

Mate, I'd rather be an 8 1/2 hour worker than do what those guys do. When you're in a job like that it's high pressure 24-7.
People bag my boss for their toys and their great paychecks, but given all that, I can drive past the place a 8:30 pm and they're still there. they're there when I get there at 7:00 am too.
They're STILL there at 5:00pm most Saturdays, yeah, I'd love to get what they earn, but I want to walk out of the place at 3:30pm and only think about me and my family.
I think people need to get both sides of this. Yes they've shutdown and they're killing 1800 jobs in this country, but, obviously this womans done a great job internationaly and made money for her company. Just like Sol, as he stated himself Telstra has posted better results than most other telcomunications companies around the world. He probably feels he deserves a raise.
I personaly quit my job just before Xmas because my boss wouldn't grant me a raise. I stayed because I got about a 20% raise. Do you think I didn't deserve that?
Remember, you don't know how much I earn. If I'm on $600 000 a year, then I just scored an extra $120 000 per annum.

Didnt they record a profit drop and also didnt sol quite becaue telstra is losing money and customers at a rapid rate? They mite do a good job but if the company is losing money you dont give your self a pay rise and sack half your workers.

You're dead right, because if no-one buys from china, then our slowing mining boom that has been attributed to Chinas boom will slow some more.

I dont understand why you need a bonus to do your job to the best of your ability.

Do you accept a job offer then go ok, I'll take it but if you want me to actually try then you have to pay me more money.

That is ridiculous.

Whenever you give these sort of incentives to management then the first place they will look to boost their bank balance is to screw the workers.

Management expect a fair days work for a fair days pay from their workers so why arent they prepared to reciprocate.
